Looks great!
Now, imagine it in the new colours.
Unfortunately it'll never happen...

It would had looked great in the new c/s, but as you said, it wont happen, atleast not as it looks now. Would have been great to see a big SAS a/c at GOT.

Yeah, the A340 is nice, but it's something special with the 747.
This 747 is a cargo only, and it was leased from Atlas air for a number of years (until -97), operating out of Landvetter - Gothenburg.
Passenger 747's were sold much earlier.

Well,we won't see a 747 in the new SAS c/s,but how close we were!
The leased Atlas plane was expected to be painted in the new c/s,but with CARGO in the red-orange colour in place of the white AIRLINES of the passenger planes.
But the Atlas contract was terminated before it happened, though.  Crying

I thought that SAS Cargo still uses the 747...???
I'm sure that they won't build up "Star Alliance Cargo" with LH and SQ if they don't even have their own freighters since a Cargoairline can't only use the Passengerplanes cargohold..

There are no more SAS dedicated cargoplanes, unfortunately.Since the DC-9-33F's and DC-8F's were sold, all SAS cargo needs have been fulfilled by renting other operators planes, like Fred. Olsen Electra's,Atlas 747's,etc. Nowadays,Lufthansa Cargo does the flying part, while SAS Cargo does the sales, etc.

This particular aircraft was originally purchased by Alitalia; sold to Atlas Air converted to a freighter. Atlas leased this plane to China Airlines and Iberia before leasing it to SAS.

Incidentally, the last 747 SAS purchased was back in 1979; Dan Viking was the 500th ship off the line. The airplane is flying cargo nowadays.
