Which airplane has greater maximum range, the 777-200er or the 747-400?

With GEs and Pratts, the 744 has more range than the 772ER, but the Rolls-powered 744 has slightly less range. The 772LR will have a greater range than all 744s, though.

772ER: 5,960 to 7,700 nm (11,040 to 14,260 km)
744: 7,325 nautical miles (13,570 km)

The range of the 772ER changes a lot, does anyone know why?

Different MTOW models of the 777-200ER are avaliable, 263 tonne & 286 tonnes. The higher MTOW means the 286 tonne -200ER can carry more fuel and so can fly farther.
