What Would You Name AC Lite?

Wed Aug 22, 2001 4:37 am

If you had to choose the name for AC Lite, what would you call it?

Personally, I would name AC Lite Canadi>n. It is still a well-known name and it would appeal to Westerners.

Would anyone actually use the name Air Canada Lite, like Contiental did years ago? At least that is a better name than the stupid rumoured Jetz Airdirect.  Nuts

I'd like to see what their route network, schedule 'n fleet 'n fares are first. Then it'd be easier to pin an appropriate guess of a name, and know how serious to take 'em.

But that 'lite' business, I don't even like when it's in the name of a beer! I'm sure it'll be something safe and clunky, given that it's under the Air Canada sort-of-stodgy umbrella. But hopefully not.

SACUDN Aviation (Still Air Canada Under a Different Name)

Actually Trans Canada Airlines would be nice, but I think ACRA has already spoken for that name.

WestAir...just cause they want to be like Westjet. they even hired it's former CEO to run their discount carrier. It's based in Vancouver, operates the similar fleet, and has said it will target Westjet's successful routes.

I agree totally. In fact I think the mainline should take the name. I personally think Canadi>n looks and sounds better than Air Canada.

Trans Canada Air Lines, Air Canada Lite and Maple Leaf express all come up short one absolutely essential criterion: the need to be functional in both English and French. (Which doesn't explain how Roots Air got away with it).

Some very interesting suggestions I must say.

Fallingeese, just to let you know I saw one of CP North's 732's in an all-white transitional livery, with new Canadi>n lettering, awaiting painting into the goose livery.

The goose lives on with Canadian North (and 3 AC 320s still awaiting repainting)

Long live the Goose!

Moose Air
Hoserjet (Bob and Doug could be the spokesmen)
Great White North Airways (see above)
Now for some serious names:
InterCanadian Airlines
CCE (Canadian City Express)
Canadian National Airlines
Air Canada Express (pull a page out of Delta's book)
CanAirEx (Canadian Air Express)
Canadian would actually be the best name they could go for. The name has value, and would attract folks on just the name recognition.

I think I've got it!

ESPRIT

Works in English, works in French. Short, fast, lends itself to an image of flight...as long as they don't mind sharing their name with teenage girls' sweatshirts.

There's no need for French.

How about Canadian Airways? Trans Canada or Canadian Airlines is very good too!

Perhaps if we consider the success the US majors have had going head to head against Southwest, and now JetBlue, IWishAir would work.

Air Canada L'Express,,,,,,,,I laughed for about a minute on that one.

I think it should be called,,,,,,Sucky airline brought to you by a suckier airline in yet another attempt to monopolize the Canadian airline industry Airlines

I think it should be called,,,,,,Sucky airline. > That's not a very nice thing to say about Air Canada, whom I would choose any day over any US airline, with the exception of Midwest Express because of their superior service.

How about AirCanSave? Not only does it contain an acceptable "Air Canada" abbreviation, but it spells out a statement as well.

If Roots Air was deemed a suitable name for a quality airline, then Zellers Air would be a strangely logical choice if a commercial alliance could be formed.

Think about it. Zellers doesn't use an apostrophe, so it's bilingual. You could collect points with each ticket purchase. You could even have a big, red Z on the tail as a unique logo, and save money on uniforms by giving all the checkers, gate agents and flight attendants a smock to put on over their street clothes.

Well, then, how about ZELLAIR?

Nah, forget it. That one goes back to the trash folder. Along with "Great White Lite" and "Econo-Loon."

Sorry.  Wink/being sarcastic

The National Post listed these names today:

AC Low Fare: Air Canada Zip or Jetz

AC Regional: Air Canada Tango

and they also stated AC is looking at starting up a charter airline to compete with Transat and C3000

AHHHHHHH!!!!! Air Canada Tango!?!?! that's hilarious.
Air Canada Zip is horible, hough Jetz is ok i guess.

Air Canada just can't have one cookie, it just has to keep reaching in for more. They are the largest airline in Canada, have the largest precentage on people flying them, 70% of them infact. But i guess they want that extra 30% aswell? They're venturing into the discount area to shoot down Westjet and Canada 3000, and are rumoured to be starting a charter carrier too?

Gimme a break.

Or here's another jetBlue throaway: It

It Airways.

Zip? Well, it's bilingual, but it's also a synonym for 'zero' - as in Service - zip. First time there's a cockup people will have a field day with this name. I still like my name, ESPRIT, better.

ESPRIT sounds great but there is no way that ESPRIT International, (fashion brand), would allow its use. Even if they did grant use (a la Roots), they would demand complete control over the image, which Air Canada would never agree to, because they have better ideas. Like Tango Zero Jetz.
