New Delta Routes To Latin America

Wed Aug 22, 2001 10:40 am

The second expansion of Delta Air Lines finally begins on December '01. New routes to México and Buenos Aires was annouced. The new routes are:
Cincinnati- Cancún using a Boeing 737-800.
New York - Buenos Aires using a Boeing 767-300ER.

I think that New York will be the second Hub for Delta's Latin America flights. I consider is necesary start the flights from New York to Brazil (Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro) and the flights to Caracas, Lima and Santiago form this Hub too. I hope that the new route specially to Brazil, Argentina and Chile could operate with a Boeing 767-400ER.

I hope that Delta introduces the new 767-400ER to Europeans destinantions, specially to London, Frankfurt and Paris.

Greetings from Santiago, Chile of a very Delta's fan.

Don't get your hopes up on Delta introducing 767-400's on flights to Europe or Brasil, Chile and Argentina because they are not used on international flights. Anyway a route that Delta should sure add from JFK is to SJU, too give AA some competition, plus it would obviusly be a moneymaker.

Delta will change the aircraft serve to Guatemala City, know it serves a 737-800, I think they will change it to a 757-200 because of the demand.

The route JFK and SJU I think that will add very soon, because the passenger coming form Europe and the Middle East will can to connect to the flights to Puerto Rico. I think that this new flights must operate on evening from JFK and returning in the morning before the midday.

With Boston slated to become a 'hub' of sorts in the next couple years, are we destined to get some LatAm nonstops of our own? It's one thing to keep throwing metal at European routes. But out of Boston, most of the worthwhile European cities are already served. Same can't be said for LatAm routes, where I'm sure DL would get ALOT of good press for 'breaking' new routes from Boston to that region. Not to mention having the whole of S. America to themselves for passengers flying out of BOS.

ChrisNH, I doubt it. DL relies heavily on a ton of connection from ATL and O&D from JFK. BOS doesn't have the O&D and doesn't have the connections, and probably won't in the future (despite DL's growth at BOS).

I consider Boston as an important hub for Delta specially for europeans routes. As long as I known, Delta start a new daily flights from Boston to Paris. Also Boston Logan is a important destination for Delta Express.

Delta operates no flights from Boston to Europe, EXCEPT the daily London flight (DL60/61) which actually goes LAX-BOS-LGW. (Same plane service eastbound, but not westbound).

While Delta may place its code (I'm not sure if they do, but IF they do) on a BOS-CDG flight, then it's an Air France codeshare.

Like chepos said dont get you r hopes to high for the 764 on those rtes. It will be years if ever if Dl puts the 764 on INLt rte's. They put the Tristar on them back when because they really didnt have anything else in the fleet at that time now they have 763er's,Md-11's,and 777 for those rtes's.

I think that Delta can get in on the action between NYC and EZE because the national airline, Aerolineas Argentinas, is out. So now there are still 3 flights JFK-EZE (UA, AA, DL). BTW, I think that this is the only International flight that they all fly and all will compete against each other in, (please correct me if I'm wrong). However the Brazilian market hasn't lost a flight. Varig is still strong and flying high on the JFK-GRU-GIG flight, along with United (with the same routing) and Americans 2 flights: JFK-GRU and JFK-GIG. I don't know if there's a market for a fourth airline on those routes, (or if you include CO's service from EWR, a fifth). So EZE IMO there is a market for, GRU, not.

Also don't forget that JAL flies JFK/GRU also. (I think 4 times a week).

Once Delta renovates their Boston terminal (right now I like to call it aviation hell) they will be able to expand to more destinations. Just to clear some things up, they codeshare on two daily Air France flights, and the new flight to London is great, I have taken it twice across the pond since it started. Delta got screwed in the northeast when AA bought Business Express, leaving us with no regional connection to NYC or Boston. Now that ACJet is up and running, I hope Delta will be able to fill more seats to Europe and beyond.

So, did DL get the JFK - EZE route as the first post in this topic seems to suggest?

Thanks ...
