Continental Airlines

Has anyone heard if CO might order more widebody jets like more 767-200, 400 or even more 777's. And is Continental possibly thinking of getting the 777-200LR, for more destionations in the future?

772/764 are all but a sure bet for additional orders. Odds are good for more 762s. 772ERs are possible, but still a major ??? at best at this time. Just when any of this will come to pass will depend on projected market forcasts over the next few years.

I think they would'nt go with the 777LR, for starters the 777-200ER has enough legs for EWR-HKG which is pretty far. There aren't too many routes longer than that, and in 6-7 years the Sonic Cruiser should be ready for it's first delivery. CAL quite possibly could be the launch customer for that aircraft, if not one of the launch customers.

So short term look for CAL to excersise their options for more 767-200s, 400s and 777s, in a year or two we should be hearing more about the Sonic Cruiser and about orders and launch customers.

I don't have a direct quote to give you but when the Sonic Cruiser was unveiled by Boeing a couple months back many airline CEOs chimmed in on it, one of them was Gordon Bethune.

Gordon Bethune a former Boeing executive was quoted in an Aviation week article I read about the Sonic Cruiser stating that the SC would give Boeing a huge advatage over it's competitior (Airbus), and any airline operating the SC would have a huge competitive advantage over it's competitiors.

The Sonic Cruiser would provide CAL a competitive advantage on Asian routes such as EWR-HKG, EWR- NRT,EWR-Osaka etc... Also the Sonic Cruiser (from what I've read) will shave an hour off transcons and two hours off trans-Atlantic routes, both of which are areas CAL is strong in and a place where they can get stronger.

No more 762'S. Boeing re opened the line for only 10 more, that's it.

Had Mr. Bethune on the Airplane awhile back and he said he was very interested in the Sonic Cruiser
