Cessna Crashes Into 18-Wheeler In Texas

Thu Aug 23, 2001 12:26 pm

By The Associated Press
(8/22/01) — A student pilot died today when his plane crashed into a truck on Interstate 20 in Parker County.

Investigators say the Cessna, which was doing touch and go's, struck the 18-wheeler just north of the runway at the Parker County Airport.
The trucker wasn't hurt.

The wreckage of the plane came to rest on eastbound I-20 at Hudson Oaks, about 30 miles west of Fort Worth.

I-20 reopened this afternoon, after being shut down for several hours.

Hudson Oaks Police Chief Ray Riley says the 20-year-old pilot -- Shri-Atul of India -- had been attempting to land when the crash happened.

A witness says the pilot was trying to land downwind when he lost control.

I saw it on the news that runway is dangerous, the end of it is about 100 feet or so away from the highway. For a junior pilot that must have been a scary runway especially landing down wind. It was an emergency situation although the guy said he was low on fuel.

The (sorta) same thing happened in the old movie North by Northwest. Sorry I just saw that for the first time so it came to mind.
