New Britannia/Hapag Lloyd/Corsair Image Unveiled!

Fri Aug 24, 2001 6:42 am

Well,
There were those who said Britannia and Hapag Lloyd were not changing their liveries. However, here is the proof!

All travel companies in the Preussag group will now adopt a common branding, dubbed World of TUI Airlines Britannia, Hapag Lloyd and Corsair are no exceptions, adoping the new light blue overall coulours whith red titles.

Have to say I'm totally unimpressed, while adopting a common branding is an obvious cost-saving measure, the chosen branding isn't going to set the world on fire. Just a very plain image...

The lady is gone, replaced with a red smile. Can't find a complete picture of a plane with Britannia titles yet.

The new BY livery is identical to that shown on the B737 except it says 'Britannia' instead of 'Hapag Lloyd'/

Please somebody start a campaign to "Save The Lady"

This new scheme looks like a hurried wet-lease from Korean Airlines, and the TUI logo will mean zip to the UK travelling public..

I think this is one for "The Sun" to get it`s teeth into...

Well at least it's not all white, but I do agree with everyone who responded so far.....It is ugly and boring. I do not like the fact that Britannia and Hapag Lloyd will basicaly have the same livery! I liked the stripes and the logo of Britannia.

Yes, you could say this livery "sucks". Very dissapointing! BY's 767s are some of the nicest looking 76's out there.

I too agree that holy crap it sucks. This is one of the ugliest I have seen. I am totally unimpressed. I thought it would be similar to the current scheme, in a way, similar to ATA's new scheme, which really isn't that bad. This new Hapag Lloyd livery is terrible. The Britannia livery was pretty good and now it is gone  Sad. Is it me or are a lot of airlines going from good liveries to bad liveries?

maybe if enough people complain and say how ugly it is they will change it, like when LTU changed their livery to the white livery, but alot of thier pax complained and LTU went back to the all red with the white stripe livery.

Can somebody explain to me how ANY European airline executive with six-tenths of a brain would pull a Union Jack off a British airline livery after all the fun we've just seen with World Images!!!!???????????????????

In the States we call this rush to market the hippest, dopiest design NO ONE gets as being "too hip for the room".

Condolences from Florida. Britannia was sharp.

A moments silence for the memory of a descent livery in Brittania's smart stripes and lady-sitting-on-chair.

Actually VH-KCT*, the person who´s responsible for this is Mr. Michael Frenzel, CEO of the Preussag Company in Hannover. This Company already owns famous brands like HF, Britannia, Thomas Cook Travel, TUI, ...! Preussag is the largest travel company in the world. And for marketing-reasons, so Mr. Frenzel, it´s necessary to give all brands the same ID = TUI.

greetings from Niedersachsen

Chris

PS: BTW, Mr. Frenzel is livin´in my hometown, 30km out of Hannover (HAJ), and his son was in my geographic-class at school

This is a shame!
Those aircraft from Britannia looked so nice. And now we get this...?

And it is also a pitty for Hapag-Lloyd. There are not that many airlines with a smashing orange tail.

From the tui-homepage
http://www.tui.com/wot_en/press/index.html

"A smile becomes a shared sign of quality

World of TUI gives our tourism brands a clearly identifiable international look. It maintains the diversity of our tourism brands at the same time as creating a globally visible brand-world -- a shared sign of quality, of a kind never seen before in the tourism industry. We therefore selected a smile as the new logo because a smile is one of the few forms of expression that has no national or cultural boundaries. It also succinctly expresses our vision: »Putting a smile on people’s faces«. "

Bleah!!  Nuts

Another airline has really blown it big time with a horrible livery change. It looks cheap and naff, as the Brits are wont to say.

Even the KE livery--which uses a similar color--is way better than this.

I checked the "Word of TUI" web site.
Apparently there is no mention of Corsair. (or Nouvelles Frontiere, or France)
I hope they will not paint this uggly scheme on the Corsair planes. (No that I love the Corsair colors, but this blue is really awfull)

Holy dog do-do on a stick this scheme sucks!!!

They've got to be kidding. When I heard that it was bad, I immediately thought of JMC, but that looks great compared to this piece of crap scheme. Who thought of this? Hope they didn't pay for it.

Can you imagine the person that came up with this thinking "there, that's a good one. Lets use this." and then get approval for it!?!?!?  Wow!

As I said on another thread on this topic: it looks like someone splattered ketchup on Korean Air. The old livery was plain but better.

Brittania ought to keep their lady with the trident and shield. It was instantly recognizable and kind of cool.

PLEASE,

go all to http://www.hlf.de, choose your language and click on "eMail" in the very first utilities bar on the bottom left. Write them two lines how much you hate this livery. I just did, I hope they get lots of negative feedback for that - it´s not too late yet, look at LTU and Air India.

I don't think the new livery is brilliant, but it isn't as bad as everyone is making out.
Besides, it's high time Brittania had a face lift.
There old livery looked quite good in the eighties.
But it is getting a bit dated now.

The (old) Britannia scheme was really quite ugly, but that's not the point. The point is that the Britannia Lady was a symbol of British Aviation! You have a flight to MAN that is delayed 10 hours, cramped seats, awful food, crying baby behind you and you arrive at MAN at 2am, you look out of the window and see the Britannia Lady sitting on the back of a 757 and you smile! The Britannia Lady is sitting on her throne, all's right in the world.

SAVE THE LADY!

Latest reports say "only" Hapag and Britannia will get those colors, not Corsair.
My impression is that the colors are lighter on the tail.

Are you sure Preussag owns Corsair? There is no mention of it on the World of TUI website. Perhaps they will keep it apart from World of TUI so the oversensitive French don't feel they are being Germanized.

World of TUI.

With the possible exception of Monarch and Airtours, Britannia has now joined JMC and Air 2000 in having a colour scheme designed by a colour blind ape.

I have seen some bad liveries in my time, but this really does assault my optical nerves in a rather brutal fashion. I was never the biggest fan of the original Britannia livery, but at least it was quite a pleasant scheme to observe.

As others have said already, it does resemble the Korean colours. OH GOD NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a sad time indeed.

There is a lot of damage being done, trying to be up-to-date or hip in corporate design, especially here in Germany.
Companies send out flocks of designers in a hepless attempt to keep up with the new aera of globalization, the info-highway, or whatever and so on... Clicking through the tui-pages, you can see that not only the new brand itself but also the so called "philosophy" is anaemic.
The old Hapag Lloyd image was never breathtaking, but it always has been a well-known and accepted icon of standard and quality.
Lufthansa, in comparison, has so far kept its image with only few and careful changes, the design is far from exciting, but it is simple, clean and not pretentious or phoney.
But this one: can't get over it. Too bad for all the money burnt in the whole campaign.

The person who designed this livery should be fired.
Also the ones who decided on it.
Gotta cost a lot of money using so much color huh ?

what can I say - the German's are attempting another rebrand of a UK airline that will fall flat on its Ar*e. My German grandma would be very disappointed!!!

Just like JMC, this will be a costly yet unrewarding exersice.

Lets hope that with the commonality of the paint job we get commonality in seat pitch with our German cousins! or are we destined for a 235 on a 757 as opposed to 215?
