AA Cancels Dallas Love -Lax

Sat Aug 25, 2001 11:40 am

AA cancels dal-lax flights but it will add another flight from love to lga and not change dal-ord. They just signed a long term lease for the east concourse with 3 gates so it looks as they are staying...But how long beofre eagle takes it over with their new crj 70 seater?

AE won't take over with the CRJ-700..... Only 56 seats or less are allowed on DAL-LGA and DAL-ORD. Why would Eagle put a limited commodity like the CRJ-700 on this route if they couldn't maximize the seats?

AA will not make money with anything they fly out of DAL. Their load factors are pathetic and a true projection of how far the bully on the block will go to protect it's turf.

I flew from DAL to LGA probably 5 times in the last 4 mos. and there were never more than 25 people on the 56 seater F100's.

I do think AA has done the logical thing to protect it's high-paying business travellers, but their methods are definitely questionable.

In all honesty, I think the low loads may have something to do with advirtising. I noticed that when the DAL flights first started, American did some advirtising. Now, I haven't seen an AA DAL ad in a long time. I think people might have just forgotten about the service.

No surprise here. If Love Field load factors are really what everybody says they are, AA will be out of there by mid 2002, replaced, probably, by Eagle.

First LAX gets cut. Next to fall will be LGA and/or ORD. Either Eagle will fly all of this or it will not be flown by AA at all.

But hey, they did what they wanted to do. They managed to run Legend out of business. Actually, they could have succeeded without going thru all this....if left alone Legend's business plan pretty much ensured that they would not succeed.

One other thing folks fail to think about...despite the Wright Amendment (or the Jim Wright-American Airlines Protectionist & AAnti-competitive bill, as I prefer to think of it)...WN does carry a lot of DAL-LAX traffic.

Folks are shrewd enough to go DAL-ELP and then ELP-LAX or DAL-ABQ and then ABQ-LAX. And despite the lure of AAdvantage miles.....the payoff available from WN is hard to beat.

Two round trips DAL-LAX, if booked on the internet (which is the best place to book illegal connections) will get you a free round trip anywhere on their route map.

AA's flights from DAL to ORD/LGA/LAX were in response to, the now defunct Legend Airlines. As you all know Legend operated DC9-30's in a 2 x 2 business/first class configuration with PTV in all seats. AA configured a couple F-100's with 56 seats in a 2 x 2 configuration to rival that and essentially squash Legend. AA has the "brand name" and could offer these fare a little cheaper because they are an, obvioulsy, larger company.

The Wright Ammendment may help AA but WN doesn't seem to mind it either. A Southwest spokesman said in the Dallas Morning News that the law's abolishment was not a high priority for them. Once they bought out Muse Air, they owned Love. They would prefer to keep it that way.

Only reason why AA kept the route going was to make it appear to the FAA that they were not predatory towards Legend.

They FAA has nothing to do with predation. Try the DOJ..... AA has nothing to prove as the case was dismissed (although appealed) based on its own merits showing there was no predation. WAH WAH WAH!

It's not a high priority item for them because of a "gentlemens agreement" to not speak out on the WA in either a positive or negative way...remain neutral.
