MAS Obtained Five Additional Landing Rights @ NRT

Sat Aug 25, 2001 3:41 pm

It was stated in a Malaysian press that Malaysia Airlines (MAS) had obtained 5 additional landing rights into NRT. This would enable MAS to operate twice daily to NRT from KUL. However, it was not stated when will MAS utilize this rights. For the time being, MAS is still flying 9 times a week to NRT, under the Winter 2001/2002 schedules. Hopefully, they can get a daily KUL-NRT-LAX v.v services, otherwise, they are going to have some pretty awful schedules even with the twice daily frequencies.

Regards.

Good news for the NWA-MAS code-share as they were hoping to use NRT as a hub for Transpacific operations.

As for the NWA-MAS code-share, there had always been news about it. even the code-share to Vietnam involves the NWA-MAS. But, there's still nothing solid about their code-share. There were numerous times when NWA was said to be code-sharing with MAS, but obviously, this did not happened. When NWA suspends it KUL services later next month, they said they are going to code-share with MAS as well, but this did not happen as well. Since NWA and MAS had been granted anti-trust immunity, I don't see any problem in code-sharing, in terms of country to country deal. Is there a preblem between MAS and NWA?

MAS currently only operates into LAX and EWR, with news that EWR will be suspended early next year due to economic reason. So does this means that MAS will code-share with NWA to most of the US cities? The LAX is not doing as good as it should had been as well, so that route might be suspended as well, though quite unlikely as MAS still want a prescence in America.

Reagrds.
