Landing Lights....

What are their use during the day?

The same reason why newer cars have daytime running lights... easier to see the plane/car.

So other aircraft and birds can see and avoid the plane. Actually, some aircraft have flashing landing lights during the day, which make the plane more visible to other planes and birds.
