American 727-223 Cut In Half

Fri Jun 25, 1999 10:47 am

I just saw a picture here on Airliners.net, which is only the front half of an American 727-223! Does anybody know about this plane?

One possibility might be that it is at an aircraft "junkyard". There are some businesses that buy old planes for the purpose of taking them apart piece by piece and selling the pieces to airlines as spares. We have a business here at GSO airport that has cannibalized an A300 and DC-10. They sat around in pieces that looked a look like the 727 in the picture.

I Strongly Do Not Believe That Is AA

Hi-

American Airlines stripes are red, white, and blue. That is the way it has always been because that is the custom order for the USA's colors. THis is [Undis] [Undis] Blue. Good catch, eh?

The colors are different because they were most likely repainted, as they are when planes are retired. The 3 stripe's match up exactly with AA's ones (size wize), and if you look very, very closely you can see American imprinted on the fuselage in silver.
It took me a while to figure it out.
