737-900...It Looks Like A Totally Different Plane!

Wed Aug 29, 2001 12:02 pm

When I see the 739, (albeit in photos) to me, even though it resembles a 737, its a totally different creature all together. I mean, the "regular" 737's get kind of old after a while, especially at some airports that are super saturated with 737's. This 739 though, in my opinion, is an aircraft that will turn me on when I see it in person! Anyone else look at the 739 as a DIFFERENT aircraft, or is it still the everyday 737 we are used to seeing. Oh yea, what are the chances of me seeing a couple 739's (AS,CO) at LAX?
 Big thumbs up

I saw one in DEN and I thought that it was just a very very very very very very very very long 737. It pushed from the A gates (CO Airlines) reght behind my 777. It seem to be growing out of the 777, and it just kept going. Very weird.

You will see both AS and CO 739s at LAX in the not too distant future.
As for looking like a different plane. Very true. It is still recognizable as a 737, but IMO it looks like Boeing took a 707-100 fuselage and added the 737 wing, engines and tail. WAIT, that's pretty much exactly what it is.
Very impressive look.

Could have I seen one at DTW a couple of Sundays ago (Aug 19th) It looked quite long, then I thought to myself, it must be a -800 because why would they fly the -900 to DTW (like I said int he MSP post about it flying to MSP)

I saw one taking off in Denver the other day, and thought that it was a 757 at first. Great amazing plane!

I saw KLM's -900 a couple of weeks ago, and didn't notice the difference from an -800 until I saw the registration number.

I saw a CO 739 at IAH and I thought that it was a 752 until I looked closely.

To me, it kindof resembles a 757-2: it seats almost just as much. Sometimes I wonder why these airlines didn't just order 757-2's instead... Maybe it has more to do with cheaper operational costs, or even a cheaper cost of the craft as a whole... Could it be that some airlines just perfer to stick with the 737 family, like Alaska? Anybody know?

Well, I agree with you UA727. It seems like CO would have ordered more 757-200's (which I wish they would have) It must have to do with operational cost.

Well it could be equivalent to a poor-man's 753/773.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

739 does appear to have a similar fuselage to the old 707's but with two tiny engines. If Boeing decided to slap on two more engines, would the 737-900 then be called 737-707?

I'd love to see a 739 w/4 engines, it would look like a poor-man's A346.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Example- If alaska airlines baught a 752 (which has way more cargo volume than a 739) Alaska is not a big cargo operator down in the states so its more economical to have a 739 which would cost less for the passengers becuase they arnt paying for that unused cargo space, which the 752 poses.

"Sad"? You are saying that I am "sad" for being turned on by an airplane? Ok, this calls for a new topic, lets see if I am the only "sad" person out here. Women turn me on too, dont get me wrong. If you dont get turned on watching airplanes (I assume you like them or you wouldnt be here) then your not into it enough.

Alaska has it going once a day SEA-SAN (flt 570/571 arrives from SEA at 10:35am departs at 11:17am). AS has no plans to bring it to ONT or SNA in the near future. Other cities currently served by the -900 from SEA are LAS, PHX and ANC. Next week AS starts SEA-DCA service and don't be surprised to see them going to Mexico come the busy winter season.

When does the 739 go to PHX? I will be connecting there on Friday on my way to LAX. I would love to get a pic of it. Thanks

Hi:

The Boeing 737-900 it looks like the Boeing 737-800. But the Boeing 737-900 has 15 seats more than the 737-800. I consider that the Boeing 737-900 like a same 737-800 but Boeing consider is a perfect plane between the 737-800 and the 757-200. Probably the 739 is a competidor for the A321 join with the 757-200.

The 739 is probably my favorite 737 derivative, simply because of the length.

The fatter (shorter) 737s are great, but not that attractive, for me, the 739 and 738 are REAL winners.

I hope to see one of these *BEAUTIFUL* aircraft in Aloha colors one day!! WOW!!
