"A pesar de que en el avión siniestrado, de la compañía Binter Mediterránea y procedente de Melilla, portaba 44 pasajeros, la Policía Local aseguró a Europa Press que por el momento se cree que no hay fallecidos"

I don't speak very good spanish, but I think Fallecidos means "fatalities". So it would mean that there are no fatalities. I hope it doesn't mean "survivors".

QUOTED FROM BBC.COM:

A Spanish plane has crashed near Malaga airport.
Reports from Spanish media said at least 45 people were injured, and some were trapped in the wreckage. There were no initial reports of fatalities.
The aircraft, operated by Iberia's Binter regional unit, was flying from Melilla, the Spanish enclave in Morocco, to Malaga in southern Spain.
A spokesman for Iberia said the aircraft came down on a road, causing an unknown number of injuries.
Fire engines and ambulances were on the scene to help evacuate passengers.
One radio station, Cadena SER, said the plane landed some 200m (656 ft) from Malaga airport, blocking traffic on the national highway N340, the SER said.
The station said the main body of the plane had broken in half on landing.
The plane is said to be a CN-235.

Copied from Cnn.com:

"MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- Several people are feared injured after a plane crash-landed near Malaga airport in southern Spain.

The plane, operated by Binter Mediterraneo, a unit of Spain's national airline Iberian Airlines, was travelling to Malaga from Mellila, Spain's enclave in north Africa. It was carrying approximately 45 passengers.

Emergency services are attending the scene.

CNN's Al Goodman said: "At least 14 people are reported to have been injured, although Iberian Airlines have reported some 40 people injured.

"We have no reports of fatalities at this time."

A police spokeswoman told Reuters: "We are evacuating the injured. We don't know how many there are."

There is some confusion as to precisely where the plane made its emergency landing.

Spain's Cadena CER Radio reported it had come down on national highway N340, about 200 metres from the airport. Other reports, however, suggested that the plane landed inside Malaga airport, but not on a runway.

Binter Mediterraneo operates a fleet of five propeller-driven aircraft made by Spanish company Construcciones Aeronauticas SA (CASA)."

Three feared dead in Spain crash
August 29, 2001 Posted: 6:05 AM EDT (1005 GMT)

MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- Three people are feared to have been killed and at least 14 injured after a plane crash-landed near Malaga airport in southern Spain.

The plane, operated by Binter Mediterraneo, a unit of Spain's national airline Iberian Airlines, was en route to Malaga from Mellila, Spain's enclave in North Africa.

It was carrying 44 passengers and three crew when it crash-landed at 10 a.m. local time (0800 GMT). Emergency services are attending the scene.

CNN's Madrid Bureau Chief Al Goodman reported that Flight 8261 landed in a residential area close to Malaga's Pablo Picasso Airport.

He said: "A senior police officer has reported that there are at least three fatalities, although whether they were passengers or people on the ground is unclear at this time.

"At least 14 people are also reported to have been injured, although Iberian Airlines have reported some 40 people injured."

A police spokeswoman told Reuters: "We are evacuating the injured. We don't know how many there are."

The plane, one of a fleet of five propeller-driven aircraft operated by Binter Mediterraneo, apparently made the emergency landing after one of its engines cut out.

Four killed in Spanish plane crash
near Malaga

Four people were killed and 14 injured when a Spanish airliner crash-landed near Malaga's airport after a short flight across the Mediterranean, airport officials said.
They said the twin-engine CN-235 plane crash-landed on a highway just
outside Malaga's Pablo-Picasso airport, its final destination. It was not immediately clear why it had been forced down, officials said
The plane had taken off from Spain's enclave of Melilla in northern
Morocco. It had a 44-passenger capacity but it was not known exactly
how many people were on the flight.[
Spanish radio quoted a survivor who said a propellor on the left wing had stopped as the plane started getting ready to land.

The aircraft was owned by Binter Mediterraneo, a subsidiary of Air
Nostrum which is under contract to the Spanish airlines Iberia.

Two military versions of the CN-235 crashed in Turkey last May and June, killing 38 people.

Just saw the news in on TV. The aircraft has broken in two parts but without parting completly. Is does not appear to have that big damage, but 3 fatalities are confirmed, and both pilots are severly injured. The survivors claimed that recue team took about 10 minutes to arrive to the scene....

The plane came from Melilla and one engine was lost at final approach.

Some years ago the Malaga-Melilla route suffered another fatal accident with this aircraft:

More Info...

Wed Aug 29, 2001 10:21 pm

It crashed while approaching runway 32 at AGP (Malaga) some minutes before 10:00 AM local time. At least one or both engine(s) failed and the aicraft crashlanded about 400 metres short of the runway, coming to a halt on N-340 highway.

From survivors, it appeared that the fatalities were sitting in the front rows and that some seat rows moved to the front (from deceleration) crushing the pax...

Hope the injured pilots and rest of pax recover soon!

Heard on TV this evening that the pilot had also died in the hospital. He was the most senior pilot in Binter Mediterranea.
Rest in peace...
