When You Gotta Go, You Gotta Go NOW.

Well this is a lovely story - From the Calgary Sun:

Pilot relieves himself on runway and sparks alert

At least he didn't wet his pants.  Smile

They sell many many things that make sure you don't have to do that on the runway. Sporty's Pilot Shop sells many things that allow pilots to relieve themselves in light aircraft.

It's unbelievable what some people will do. I'm surprised they let him get off that easily. Lord knows what would have happened had there been another aircraft of approach behind him. Sheesh. I thought it was a joke when I heard about it yesterday at my flight center.

Call me a prude(not really), but if this guy was allowed to get away with it, then why is the guy that does the same thing at midnight by the local 7-11(a convenience store for those that don't live in the states) get arrested for indecent exposure? Does it seem fair to you? Maybe this nitwit has never heard of Sporty's.

I read aobut that too.. Pretty funy alright as I was munching on my McDonalds chicken wrap.
I too was surprised that he got off easily.
The cops were laughing at him!

hmm, it looks liek this is another one of those Runway Incursions, Its no wonder why Calgary is the worst in Canada for these problems!

Some time ago there was a report released by Transport canada saying that yyc is worst in CDA for those.

The whole Runway Incursions thing was blown out of context by the media. Seeing how busy we are at Calgary and only have intersecting runways and utilize SIROPS(Simultaneous Intersecting Runway Ops) of course we would have a higher rate. But most of the incursions were by vehicles, and never anything more serious than an overshoot required.

Seems like he could have a least made a taxiway and told ground control he had to stop for a sec.....no emergency and I'll be off the radio for a minute....probably would have been no big deal.

I was once an F/E with a capt./check airman who was giving IOE (initial operating experience) to a new F/O. The captain had a nasty looking buritto a few hours earlier and it hit him on descent into DEN at 4 am. He had to go really bad but didn't want to leave this low time F/O on approach by himself. As soon as we landed, we pulled the 727 off at the nearest taxiway and stopped while the capt. went in the back and exploded....told ground control we would just be stopped here for a few minutes to check a problem....no emergency and we'll get right back to ya....

The same capt. did my F/O IOE and I always joke about that incident when I fly with him. He knows a few funny stories about me, too, so I can't say much.....

Well at lease he didn't stop on the taxiway. What do you want them to do? He had to go realy bad. He got yelled at. They let him go. At lease he didn't kill anyone.

Actually....stopping on a taxiway is better. There are lots of taxiways (runway exits) and other aircraft can easily go around you if you are blocking one for a bit. Running off the runway and into the grass is going to be seen as a sign of that you had a major problem, lost control on roll out, and need help....that's why they called the fire trucks. If you just stop on a taxiway and don't call ground...they assume a loss of communication and don't get too worked up about it. Then they look at you with the binoculars and see your peeing and have to shut the airport down because the controllers are laughing so hard.
