CO's 747s & DC10s

Sun Sep 02, 2001 8:01 am

How many 747s did CO have in their fleet at one time?

Also, how many DC10s do they still have currently in service?

Thanks

At one point we had 10 747-100's/200's
We have 14 DC10's left.

To make it short, Continental ordered an original batch of 747-124s that were eventualy sold in the 70'.

Original Continental's -124 series:

When PEOPLExpress merged with CO in 1987, their mix of -100s and -200s (Some purchased from Alitalia and QANTAS) were integrated in CO's fleet.

All were disposed in the early 90' in favor of more DC10s, most went into storage.

I come up with a max of 9 747s: 2 741s-Ships 010 and 011 (As I recall 010 went on to fly for TW for a short time after CO was done with it). 7 742's-Ships 019-025. 019 was aquired from BA while the others were inherited from PE. 14 -10s sounds right. However, if the schedule I have is still correct then that number should be reduced by two before the end of September.

I'm gonna miss seeing all of those DC-10's at IAH.

I looked up the DC10 routings and did a count. Looks like CO only has 12 of the old birds left flying. Of the 31 Series 30s that once plied the skes, the lucky few that still wear the gold and grey are Ships 062-064, 069, 070,077, 079, 081-083, 085, 088.

Continental flew a total of 10 747-100/200's. The carrier originally ordered the -100 from the manuf.
but disposed of them in the late 1970's only to
get a handful more of the -200's when it bought
PeoplExpress Airlines (most PE 747's were ex AZ
aircraft).

Continental operated 36 DC10-10/30's and now
has about 12 left.

In 1997, as an interim measure following the
order of 767 and 777 aircraft, CO acquired a
number of second hand DC10's from Condor,
Lufthansa, and Iberia

Hmmmm..... NOT counting the (I think) four original 747-124s, I count only nine CO 74's... Ships 010,011,019,020,021,022,023,024,and 025. Did I miss one somewhere? (Given my memory these days.. )

In 1999 CO had 36 DC-10-10/30s. By my count, CO has around 12 DC-10-30s in service now. I saw N13088 at HNL in July as well as, N14079 which I flew on, N17085 which I also flew on, and N15069 which I saw at IAH. CO Mike also has some.
