Lufthansa To Introduce New Livery!

Mon Sep 03, 2001 3:12 am

According to airlinersonline.com:

Lufthansa (Frankfurt) (rumor of the week!) is planning to introduce a new color scheme that will feature different shades of gray on the fuselage with the traditional tail markings (confirmation of this rumor is requested).

Can't wait to see Lufty in new coulours!  Big thumbs up

I hope it ain't true since I really like the current sheme. It is very simple but it fits the LH image very well.

Lufthansa would disapoint costumers if they'd change the package but not the product. So as long as Lufthansa does not plan to improve services I doubt they will introduce a new livery.

RE: Lufthansa To .. // Atraxis Merger

Mon Sep 03, 2001 6:25 am

Let's say: if Lufthansa really merges with Atraxis and this merger would lead to changes in Lufthansas product range noticeable for passengers (i.e. in the so called "ebusiness" - can't stand this word anymore - sector) then the introduction of a new livery would be justified.

Hi !

I agree with Godbless because the current livery representates LH`s image very good.

First Officer Johnnybgoode, you're right. However, I just wanted to illustrate my previous post and will now probably spend the whole night to find a better explanation.  Smile

Would be great if it's true. But, they certainly need to improve their inflight service and customer relations as well.

Overall Lufthansa's look is ok, nothing to write home about but still pretty refective of it's perceived image. it would be nice if they jazzed it up a bit for the 21st century but not a total makeover... same goes for a number of other airlines (AZ, OA, AA, IB, AF)

well, if there´s anything we can say for sure that at least some major portion of grey will stay. almost every single LH-check in desk around the world is mainly held in grey and there´s so many marketing and livery stuff in grey: the new terminal design at frankfurt (T1, A), the waiting areas and its seats, the cabin-layout (which is rather new, although i do hope they´ll change their economy design rather soon!!!).

additionally, LH would never let go of its tail design...
i think major changes would only be seen on the fuselage.

i think some more color on the fuselage (mainly the LH blue and yellow) as well as on the engines...

btw, thanks for promoting me, NoUFO!!!

cheers

Great news! The only color scheme more boring than Lufthansa is Air France!

Change the Lufthansa color scheme? NO WAY! It's a classic - Lufthansa hasn't fell for the p.r. disaster that has befallen the British Airways scheme(s). I liked the Flying Colors scheme - it helped show that BA was indeed a world carrier serving many of the worlds' people and showed this with the world art on the a/c's tails. Interesting and informative. Then BA fell for the patriotism trip and emblazoned a beach towel on the tail! Hopefully, Lufthansa will keep away from the tacky and cheap (Virgin, BA) and just keep the firm hand they have always kept on their classic image. This goes for AF and Alitalia as well. Thanks.

Shake hands .. I fully agree.

Then BA fell for the patriotism trip and emblazoned a beach towel on the tail!

Not BA but a large number of BA's passengers I would say. The airline just did what the paying clients requested. Not surprisingly most of them consider BA as the national carrier and the waving Union Jack is a symbol for being british. BA was probably ready for a more "multicultural" going - but not the passengers.
I like this "towel", tough ...

Back to Lufty: I agree with captain Johnnybgoode and wish, LH would - in doubt - upgrade design and seat pitch in Eco-class first.

That would be a real surprise if true!

Although all in all I think that Lufthansa offers a better product than 3 or 4 years ago I must say that an airline that charges the equivalent of almost $400 for a one hour economy domestic flight (that´s about the same as you pay for FRA-JFK off-season!) should improve its mediocre service first - and than think about a paint-job. The current livery, although not what I call stunning, is very much reflecting LH: classy, cool, timeless, efficient.
I would welcome a modification and a bit more colour, but I hope and expect it will be something not too loud (and several shades of grey definitely doesn´t sound "loud"). Good news is LH doesn´t change the tail. That´s one of the best icons in the aviation industry. Only Qantas kangeroo on red and Pan Am´s blue globe comes near.

Yeah I've got mixed feelings about changing the LH livery. It's such a fixture, and not too bad, I think looks better on the smaller planes where the surfaces are smaller, and the simplicity of the pattern suits the craft better (ie CRJs, even including the 70seaters).

Maybe let Condor and Hapag-Lloyd take the livery funkiness mantle, for the Germans and Austrians.

It Is Reportedly Landor ...

Tue Sep 04, 2001 7:53 pm

I skimmed through an aviation magazine ("Flug Revue") and found a note that a team around Peter Knapp from Landor, London office was currently working on a new project for Lufthansa.
Peter Knapp previously worked on rebranding-projects for BMI, Cathay, BA, Delta and Asiana.

I don't think they'll change it a lot.
I also hope they won't do it as I like their scheme and it looks quite good. It's a serious image.

 Big thumbs up

BTW: Maybe they could change it to pink so that they would fit to TUI (HF ; BY ; ...) new image ! lol

well, if they change it, they should keep it similar but may be inspired by the current cathay and continental liveries!!!

Siriwatthana,

I have seen many proposals for a new LH color scheme, but this one is the first one that looks really awesome. However, I have my doubts that we'll see it on the a/c anytime soon.

Just my 0.02$

No. The website says: "Experiments in livery and logo design."
BTW: The website looks rather unprofessional. I doubt this is a "real" agency with the focus on branding/rebranding.

i really doubt LH will go for curvy lines and a curvy livery, like bmi and as it was portrayed by this link provided by siriwatthana.
as many have stated before LH´s current livery looks professional, classic and fits LH´s image whereas this pseudo-modern look à la bmi wouldn´t fit LH in my opinion.
somehow, i would expect a livery which looks similar in style to that of SAS, although i hope it would be not as plain...
