About The Guy Sucked Into The Engine.

Wed Sep 05, 2001 5:27 pm

Hi.

I once saw a video of a man working on the deck of an aircraft carrier. As he was not carefull enough, he came too close to the jet intake of an aircraft. (Prowler I thimk) He is sucked right in, at which point the video ends. Now comes the part I don't understand:

It is said that the man wasn't injured at all, hardly a scratch! How is that possible??

I've seen that video on TV! I wish I could find it on the 'net - it's a classic.

The intake of an A-6 is just barely wide enough for a man to wedge himself in, and the actual engine intake is a bit smaller than that, and has the fan spindle protruding in front of the fan blades, like all jet engines. The guy was wearing a helmet, which jammed up against the spindle and prevented him from going any further.

I saw that video, it scared me.

But then I saw some other video where a guy got sucked into a Corsair(?), which had a bigger intake, and the crew was forced to pull the guts by hand.

Crap I feel sick, I'll stop here.... Wow!  Sad

Wouldn't the engine flame out with the guy covering the intake?

I worked on the Intruder (similar to the Prowler, but that one was the A-6) in the Navy and what happened was the guy went in and got wedged between the bullet of the engine and the intake wall. It sucked his cranial (helmet) off, his belt, watch, a couple finger nails and deafened him for a week or so. We saw that video every year in saftey lectures, the extended version shows him crawl out and stagger a bit before dropping to his knees.

Try this link, it's all the way at the bottom of the page, if it re-directs you to the homepage just click the multi-media link.

Saw A Fox Get Sucked!

Wed Sep 05, 2001 6:46 pm

Well my dad on a flight home from Canberra was delayed 1 hour due to a fox being sucked into the number 2 engine on a Ansett 737, one of the more practical reasons for a delay...at least for Ansett
cheers

i heard that the guy blew out his eardrums, which would make sense because of the noise and pressure.

I'm glad you like our galleries at
http://www.globemaster.de/airextreme/

Due to the inconceivable incidents in the United States our galleries are closed though.

Our thoughts are with those who were killed and injured in the horrible tragedies in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
We condemn these hostile acts of terrorism and want to express our deepest sympathy and condolences for our american friends.

Please do not remote link our pictures and videos directly.
Unfortunately a few months ago we had to take all our videos offline, just because of excessive downlads from high traffic message boards.
We have a traffic limit at our web hoster and we don't want to close our galleries permanently just because we exceed this limit.
Linking to our website is fine, but let the users of the board decide on their own if they want to see our stuff or not.

Thank you for your understanding,
Peter.
