Cost Of Painting An Aircraft?

Thu Sep 06, 2001 12:54 am

How much does it cost to paint an airliner the size of a 747 for example? does it vary according to colours and design work employed in the livery?
.....up there with the best!

As far as i am aware the livery is not painted on but are actually stickers of sorts.Im sure the plane is painted at first then the stickers are put on top of that.As for the cost i have no idea?

I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think I've heard that Lufthansa (or any other standard paint sheme) 747 paintings cost about 100.000DM (~50.000 US$). Probably some of the BA World Tails must have been much more expensive...

Yes, I would think it would definately depend on these factors. If I am able to find out, I'll post it here. I read in Airliner World that the 'pictures' are actually transfers, well some of them I guess. I really like the pink JAL 50th anniversary livery on the 747 with the Disney characters, now that would be a lot of transfers, or is it all painted? I don't know. I would love to see the painting of a livery like this, actually I would love to help!!!
