Flying Russian, What To Expect.

Thu Sep 06, 2001 2:58 am

Hi! In late october I'm going to fly with Aeroflot from Moscow to Mumbai (Bombay). The aircraft is an Ilyushin Il-62. I'm just wondering what I should expect (or not expect) from the flight. I also looking for som fun trivia about the aircraft. If there's anything you know about the trip itself, please tell me.

cheers

This is Superfly's Cubana Il-62 trip report. Not the same airline, but maybe it will give you a general idea of what to expect.
Hope it helps.

Flew an IL-62 from Singapore to Prague in the late 80's (on CSA). It was pretty scary from memory.

I have never heard an aircraft make that many pops, cracks and whistles in-flight. On takeoff, the overhead bins would spill their contents into the aisles (and sometimes again on landing). We also had to stop in Bombay and Teheran (I think) to refuel, so it took forever to get there, and being cramped up in a small single-aisle aircraft with NO onboard entertainment was way too much. But, at least it's not quite as long a flight for you.
