Flying CX FRA-HKG Soon

Thu Sep 06, 2001 4:40 am

This weekend I want to book my main holiday for this year. Destinations are Hongkong and Bali.
I´ve reservations already for the flights via Cathay Pacific for end of October (the 744-flights are almost fully booked 2 months in advance! It wasn´t easy to get any) and have a few questions now: Do all 744s have PTVs in economy by now? Which aircraft are flying HKG-Denpasar? 777s and/or A330/340, I guess. Do you think I have to bother about a possible strike?
Some spotting tips for CLK would be nice too (although I won´t have much time for that).

Na,

All of Cathay's aircraft have PTVs in economy, except for the 3 A340s leased from Air China. Denpasar is normally operated by an Airbus, with possibility (Unfortunately for you) that it could be one of the 3 Air China aircraft.
As for a strike, it would be unlikely. Perhaps expect some delays. Hopefully you do not have tight connections, otherwise you could end up missing a flight. Delays of 1-2 hours are not too uncommon.
Spotting at CLK depends on whether they are using Runways 07 (From Macau/China direction) or Runway 25 (Over Hong Kong). If they are on 07, then from Tung Chung (The town next to the airport) you can take the S52 bus from the bus terminus and get off at the last stop. Don't take the S52P, as that goes somewhere else. To get to Tung Chung, take the S1 bus from the airport and get off at the large bus
terminus.
If they are using 25 it is easier. Go to the Airport Hotel and walk outside the main street-level doors. Cross the road and walk to the right, then left. Behind a small grey building is the sea. Just sit there are watch planes come in. Unfortunately you cannot see departures from here.
If you stay airside it is good as there are large glass windows everywhere to watch from.
Hope you enjoy your trip and have a few good flights!

According to AOA, the union of the CX pilots, they do not go on strike, but take limited industrial action. And it is a 'good' time to travel by Cathay because the pilots strictly obey the safety mannual during this industrial action. You can have a very safe flight. You cannot have any safer CX flight when the industrial action ends. The CX pilots do not obey the safety mannual when no industrial action. According to CX flyboy, safety is the most important, arrival on time is not important.
And one of the 3 Air China A340 will be expired soon. And some CX B777 provide limited PTV service.
And more information: CX Flyboy claimed that he is a CX pilot.
I hope you have the best journey.

Na,

Listen to CXFlyboy, he is a CX pilot and for the record CXCPA is one can short of a six pack !!

CXFlyboy / Na,

Remeber by the end of October at least one of the Air China A340's could be returned. This make's your chances much better of getting a aircraft with PTV's.

Have a nice flight and please remember to contact CXFlyboy or myself If your doing any spotting in Hong Kong.
