Finnair 757s

Thu Sep 06, 2001 5:41 am

I flew through Helsinki a week ago and had a good look at a large portion of Finnair's fleet. I noticed that Finnair's 757s have a livery different from the new Airbus jets, MD-80s, and MD-11s. In the Finnair in-flight magazine, the 757s are also depicted in a different livery. Is this because the 757s are used only for charter work?

I also read recently that Finnair will lease a pair of 757-300s this winter. Does anyone know for how long and whether they may be a permanent addition to the Finnair fleet? Thanks for the assistance.

Yes, it's because of their charter role. If I'm not mistaken, the -300s will be leased new from ILFC.

Funny, isn't it, how you can spot no less than four different liveries of the airline almost every time when visiting Helsinki airport (the 4th one is painted on the ATR-72s - you can find plenty of pictures here).

The most confusing are the MD-11s: there's the old blue-cross-on-the-tail version, plus one with no cheatline, and a third with the latest "F" tail - all in a fleet of four aircraft!

I also read that Finnair is looking into regional jets. Does anyone have any information on that topic?
