do you think transport canada should shut down air transat . also if this was a usa carrier do you think the faa would shut them down .

It is now reported on canadian radio stations and tv that Air Transat put a different engine part on the A330 than normal and let it fly. Also they tried to put the blame on Rolls Royce and I think Rolls Royce has issued a statement against Air Transat.

Some of this might not be true as some is hear say.

bobnwa-its the turth, sometimes it hurts but air traansat is an embrassment to the name of canadian aviation.

Pickey, rude and useless...bring em on as long as I am safe I can handle the more trivial things.

Given the fact that Air Transat has had several safety violations in this past year alone, transport should really take a good hard look at why and set some rigid rules for them to follow.

Does anyone remember Nationair? Go to if you want to read an interesting but horrifying story about a company that repeatedly disregarded safety.

According to the 11:00 news in Canada last night, Transat has admitted that they did not follow the maintenance advisory 100%. So what the hell were they thinking? "Let's take a gamble, as long as we keep with on time performance and make more money?"

In my opinion, peoples lives are worth more than a game of Russian Roulette and it is disgusting that here we are in 2001 and this airline is practising such diabolical safety.

1) Have you noticed that the author of this web site does not identify himself anywhere on his site. His name is Dale Humphrey, former frustrated flight attendant at Nationair and former SCAB at PWA.  Innocent

2) Although some of the information on the website is true, most of it is a pack of lies.

3) Lastly, keep in mind that the mechanic who signed off the DC-8 that crashed in Jeddah boarded the aircraft himself. Believe me, he was no fool and would never have accepted to fly an aircraft that he would have believed unsafe.

just put your roots air uniform on nd cry... it is not because air transat is competition to Skyservice that these guys are not responsible and bad.
look from what i remember a was it two years ago that a swissair MD11 crashed in the ocean...
hmm what about Air France conconrde that crashed after rolling over a CO DC10 part on the runway. dos it means that Continental airlines as bad maintenance? There is no excuses for what happened on TS 236 but let your closeminded opinions at home and get a life!!!!

Many facts about TS236 are yet to be determined, at least as far as the public record is concerned, so why don't we all just settle down a little bit, huh? The Transport Ministry has already indicated that it plans to deal with this matter seriously, the big fine this week is proof of that. The only thing I am left wondering is how this would have played out if the glider had landed on Canadian soil and no foreign government was leading the investigative process. Would the messy way the A330 was realeased to the line after the engine change ever been released to the public if this were the case? Why do I ask? It's because the rules have always been different (as in less diligently applied) for airlines that got their safety oversight out of the Montreal office of TC than those in the rest of Canada. Nationair and Royal were proof positive of this. It's been more good luck than good management that something like this hasn't happened before.

This incident may finally put the double standards of TC's oversight of Quebec carriers to bed. The minister had better take a good look at how the YUL office has been allowed to play fast and loose with the rules, before something really bad happens.

In my opinion, of course.

I flew Air Transat to MCO from YYZ and it was fast but it was tight in those little seats on that L1011-150. I flew down on the 18th of Aug on the same plane that cought fire on the taxi way just two hours after I deboarded from it. Tell me that is not scarry that could have happend in my flight. I wonder if Captain Cunard was flying it back to YYZ after he droped us off

More bad press for Air Transat...somethin bout a fuel leak and a cancelled flight.

I think it's about time for a Valujet-AirTran makeover scenario.

It's a double-edged sword.....poor maintenance, but those pilots did a kick-butt job of bringing that plane safely down in a glide for 18-mins as mentioned by that article inthe Independent!

Going back to the Nationair incident which someone brought up it should be pointed out that the mechanic who was onboard that aircraft was in charge of the aircraft(maintenance wise) but he could not sign for the aircraft as he did not have a Canadian license. I do believe the FE signed for that flight as Nationair's FE's had that authority. It was typical Nationair standards that they put someone in charge who could not really call the shots as he was not qualified to TC standards. Doesn't mean he did not know what he was doing. But it created a lot of confusion. And upper management thrived on it. Ridiculous deadlines, job threats, etc. Don't forget Transat started shortly after Nationair did at Mirabel with a lot of disgruntled ex-Nationair employees. And they took over the Nationair hangar after they went belly up. There are some parallels to be drawn here. Couple that with the YUL TC office. Look out.
