Excellent airline with a great economy service
I must say economy food is among the best around.
The older aircraft 747SPs and 747-200 are in the
process of being phased out.The A300 has also gone.
Excellent technical section.Quite a few African airlines
use SAA for servicing of their aircraft.

Cheers!

Very good airline. I always enjoy flying with SAA. One of the remaining airlines where you get a care set in economy too. And the drink selection is the best all over the world!

I agree with the previous. Only flown them long haul twice (LHR-CPT B743 and JNB-LHR B744 ) but as far as the back cabin goes I thought that they were pretty good. The captain was friendly and allowed a fairly lengthy flight deck visit over northern Africa.

Their domestic and regional service (CPT-JNB A300, JNB-HRE B737 and HRE-JNB A320) I would probably regard as average rather than good, but not the worst I've encountered by any means.

Great airline. They've been through a rough couple of years. It all came apart in the early '90s and it's only in the past 2 years that things have really changed for the better. SAA's economy cabin on its jumbos provides some of the best seats in the business, and they are more than generous on space. Good food, and I think the only airline that provides all economy passengers with tablecloths for dinner and breakfast on transcontinental flights. Good cabin crew and great technical service (I think SAA even provide D checks on LH 747 classics?) As mentioned in other posts, 747sp's an 200s will soon be replaced by either A340s or B777s.
SAA is currently busy with a huge expansion programme in order to penetrate the African continent and become the airline of choice throughout Africa.
The only people who ever complain about SAA are South Africans-it's become a national past time to slag-off the airline, people refuse to believe they have changed from a few years ago-but they have, and I have experienced it. LOVE SAA!!!!!
