The Ads In This Forum

Mon Jun 28, 1999 10:01 am

I guess most of you here have a 56K modem and even thought it is at 56K mode the forum takes about 40 seconds to load the first time you get in and about 20 seconds to load, eg after you have post a topic etc...

The ads are too anoying and should be loaded adter the main messages appear. Anyone with me here?

Unless you want airliners.net to cease to exist... deal with the ads.

Let's Appreciate The Ads

I suggest you change your browser setting to not show graphics. That will make loading go very fast.

But remember: the ads help pay for the forum.
Perhaps you could click on the ads a few times a month to show your appreciation for this site.

Can't They Place The Ads Somewhere Else?

Mon Jun 28, 1999 2:41 pm

But can't they place the ads after the main forum has loaded? or placed the ads at the bottom of the pages?

I know the ads can be annoying at times but as people pointed out, they pay the costs involved in running a website such as Airliners.net. If it wasn't for them there wouldn't be any Airliners.net or you would have to pay a fee to get access.

The advertisers demand that their ads are shown above the fold, without the need to scroll, that's why I've put them at the top.

We might be able to find some other form of income in the future but right now the banner ads are of critical importance to our existance.

First of all, the only time I hate the ads are when my cable connection is slow. Other than that, I dont mind them because they take no more than 5 seconds to load.

I dont like the ads either

BUT we must live with them and I did click on them to support this amazing site.

However the newest generation of ads are more like cartoons than ads and they take forever to load and some sites (not this one thank God) wont even load the page until all the ad is loaded

Imagine doing email with HOTBOT or HOTMAIL and being forced to wait for the ads to all load before you can evee get your mail.

Hotbot has been breaking down ever since they put that about.com ad on.

But I dont find this page to take too long. It is almost always one of my fastest loading pages hen you consider all the options it has.

Now My Microsoft Homepage? GOD! That thing must break down twice a day

I do believe though there will come a time that the public will say ENOUGH because the ads will be too high tech and take too much space.

And can somebody tell those brains at about.com (formerly The Mining Co.) that they should check their spelling before they put out their ads.

Its Christian Teens NOT Chrisitan Teens

All in all this is still a very user friendly site

anyone who has used hotbot or hotmail will think this is the Concorde!!!!

This site never takes more than 5 seconds to load, even after I have posted. I find it a lot faster than most sites I visit on the Net. The Ads do not bother me, but I guess if they were delaying the load time I would get a little fed up with them.

What's Wrong With Porn Ads?

Tue Jun 29, 1999 8:40 am

I LIKE porn ads. They're better than that about.com nonsense, all these "Chrisitans" foaming at the mouth about how god is going to get us, if satan doesn't stick a fork up our bottom first. Or something. And as far as I can tell, being a Chrisitan AND teenaged in our society is very confusing when attempted at the same time. Or not. (It's hard to tell cos of all the bad spolling - the post about Marilyn Manson may well have been about HANSON for all the sense it made.)

Perhaps when you click on a topic, it can come up on another screen, just like what happens when you want to see a photo in the photo section. That way, you don't have to go ALL the way back. You can just close the front window and bamm, your back to the main discussions page. (It's like this in the NEWS section too.)

Flpuck6 - New Windows

Tue Jun 29, 1999 2:42 pm

If you're using Netscape on a PC, you can make the threads open in a new window. Instead of clicking the topic with the left button, click it with the right. A pulldown menu will appear, and you can choose the first choice, "Open in New Window". This will cause the link to open in a new window, and if you do this for several topics, you can have them all open in different windows at the same time. I usually do this, and flip to another topic while I wait for a reply to load. There is a way to do this on a Mac, but I don't know how. It's different due to the fact that there is right mouse button. I don't think that this is possible in Explorer, but it might be in the new version.

I have a cable modem. It loads in 2 seconds. I don't care.

Also, its not a porn add! Its for a music/pop culture site.
