Saudi 744 Sched. To San?

Sun Sep 09, 2001 1:08 pm

I was at the SAN airport today for a quick trip from SJC, and when on the rental car shuttle, I saw a Saudi Arabian 744 land an start taxiing. Is this a scheduled flight? I don't really have the resources to check right now (56k as opposed to my usual Cable), so maybe I'm making too big a deal out of this. Anyway, any help would be appriciated.

Yeah, I too saw the Saudi 744 at SAN today parked off of the runway entrance. Wierd site to see... I thought I was seeing something else!

I saw this plane land today while I was at work, a very nice looking aircraft.

It was probably there to pick up Military personnel and transport them to Saudi Arabia. I've seen them come into Portland (PDX) on several occasions and that is why they come here; to transport National Guard units to the Gulf.

Take some photos and upload them! There are no scheduled 744 services to SAN at this time.

I passed by SAN during late morning today (Sept. 9), and there was no Saudi Arabian 747 to be seen. If it was just a troop transport, then it probably wasn't here for more than however long it needed to be. My guess is that it left during the early morning. I'm not sure where it went from SAN; probably a US airport with a longer runway as a technical stop for the trip to the Gulf.

Next time I hear about a Saudia plane coming here, I'll for sure try and take some pics with my digicam.

More likely, visiting Saudi Royal Family.

I saw this plane take off Saturday evening while at work. It used practically the whole runway. I have never seen a plane use so much runway in SAN before.
