Korean Airliner Forced Down

Wed Sep 12, 2001 5:22 am

ABCnews is reporting that US and Canadian forces forced down a KAL flight over whithorse bay, canada. Troops stormed the plane. No more details provided.

I could see the smoke from the towers from where I work in NJ. Incredible.

Rumor has it that the Korean jet may have been low on fuel, but still, I don't know anymore about this. At least that's what I heard on CTV. Something about hijacking was also mentioned.

BTW, there is no such place as Whitehorse Bay - it's supposed to be just Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. The airport in this city of 23,000 has a runway large enough to handle widebodies since charter flights regularly come there during the summer.

There were actually 2 planes, one a Korean 747, and the other was some cargo plane, both flying from Korea. They were NOT forced down but were intercepted because the pilots said that they were 'in trouble'.... they later explained that the fuel was the problem, so they were diverted to Whitehorse. I know that the Korean 747 landed in Whitehorse, i don't know about the other one..
