How Secure Is Your Airport?

Wed Sep 12, 2001 7:43 am

How can 4 planes leaving from 3 different airports be hijacked without getting noticed on the ground? I will no longer feel safe in the sterilized area unless something drastic happens to US airport security.

My "home-airport" Nuremberg (NUE/EDDN), Germany, is not not more secure than any other airport.

I think, when you want to get onboard a plane without passing the security staff. you can manage it. If you want to get on the apron of a civil airfield, you can do that. The fences won't prevent anyone from doing this.

If anyone has the intention of doing something illegal he will manage to do this...

there are no airports which are less secure than others
because determined people will always find a solution
to accomplish their will; if they cannot hijack a plane to
crash it on a high building, if they can not cross high
fences, they could always use a Stinger missile to
shoot down an aircraft....  Sad

Tel Aviv is known to be the thoughest one in terms
of security, unfortunately terrorists will always be
able to find a breach in the "system" to perpetrate
their crimes...for those who know the country and
Tel Aviv, what do you think about a Stinger against
Arkia aircrafts landing at Sde Dov near Ramat Aviv ??
no guards at all at the beach surrounding the
airport....  Sad

This morning in Milan MXP only two doors were open to enter in the terminal 1 and police check air-ticket and passport of each one who go inside the terminal.
Only passenger who had to take a plane where allowed to enter. Visitor and relatives should stop outside.
Also in Rome there are more controls.

Anyway, why always wait that something terrible and horrible happened before start serius controlls??

Anybody determined enough to commit suicide in a plane has the possibility to do it. On what basis could the ground staff stop him ?
I guess the answer will be to have weapons in the planes to fight back these people.

Well when you have people working at the check-points who themselves have not been in th e country for more then a year, and barely speaking english, or French (As the case is in Canada, and Toronto in particular) It's not hard to imagine someone sneaking past security. The people at security should be people from the army, as it is in many airports in Europe and Asia. That does not insure absolute protection, but it is better then what we have now, contracting the security of an airport, and a nation, to the lowest bidding security company. There are somethings that should not be done as cheaply as possible and this is one of them.

My home airport Is VIE (Vienna, Austria). The security is high there and has always been since some kind of attack 10 or so years ago. Some policemen always stand with automatic rifles around their necks ready to fire at any time. There are also x-rays for each gate.
