What's Parked At Your Airport Now?

Wed Sep 12, 2001 8:44 am

I work next to GSO and saw a ton of planes out there.

2 Midway 737s are the Cargo Terminal
Spirit Air DC9 at Main Terminal
Air Canada A330 at main terminal
2 Air Canada CRJs
And odd looking 727 at Cargo terminal
about 40 or so Jetstreams, Dash-8s, Saabs, 737s, DC9s, CRJs of AA, UA, CO, Northwest, USAir scattered all over the place.

Can't see in between the terminals though, maybe some more larger craft there.

This whole situation is unreal.

1 USAir Saab 340
1 USAir Dornier 328

1 Midwest Express DC9
1 Fed Ex Caravan (diverted in)

Toledo Express (TOL)
of the 7 there 5 of them were Diversions when they shut down the ATC system

May god be with the victims and the families.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of them and the Flight Crews aboard UA175 UA93 AA77 and AA11

At Montreal Dorval

BA B747
KLM B747
Aeroflot B767

These are the aircraft diverted that I can see. AC from Munich also diverted in. There is a row of AC Narrow Bodie Airbus' at the AC maintenance hanger. There are a total of 7 diverted trans atlantic aircraft diverted to YUL.

At Montreal Mirabel word is that LH, SR, AA and NW all have aircraft there (from the local news). They showed footage of an AA 767 landing at YMX today. There are a tocal of 14 diverted trans atlantic aircraft at YMX.

At DFW Delta MD11 diverted from ATL headed to NRT.

A UA777 is sitting near the southend of the DFW airport, west side. Not a thing parked near or around the 777.

Lots of AA jets. Very sad, very quite at DFW.

God Bless America!

Nothing unusual at LAS.

Oddest thing is probably the private 737 at the executive terminal. No one's getting near enough for numbers. Access to the best viewing spots has been blocked.

Some Delta and AA 737's which are kind of rare here.

Lots of America West and Southwest. Two Aloha 737's.

Here at Calgary International(CYYC) we currently have:

6 United 777
1 American 777
1 American 767-300
1 United 747-400
1 Alitalia MD-11
1 Alitalia 767-300
1 Airtours A330-300
1 RAF VC-10

Plus all the Air Canada flights(including Canadian), all regionals, and all of Westjet as well that were here when the airport closed down.

All of Aloha's 737-200s and Hawaiian's 717-200s are still parked at the inter-island terminal. News of the New York and DC incidents hit the islands before the first inter-island flights were scheduled to leave.

A Quantas 744 which is rare and a couple of China Airlines 744s.

1 Evergreen 742
3 Northwest DC-10s
2 Continential DC-10s
3 Hawaiian DC-10s
1 Swissair MD-11
1 United 744
2 United 772s
1 United 752
2 JAL 744Ds
2 JAL DC-10s
2 Fedex MD-11
2 Polar Air 741s

It's so quiet, no AC flying at all, it's so strange for a state that depends so heavily on airplanes.

Today, six airplanes crossing the Atlantic Ocean on their way to the USA requested permission to land at Keflavik, Iceland (KEF). Only four of them did land, two 767 SAS jets and two 747-400 Lufthansa Jets.

Here are some photos I took today (click to enlarge):

Too many to mention, obviously, but also, obviously, nothing unusual, it's just wierd seeing all these planes jammed up together. MIA is AA heaven right now. Just about every type of AA plane is in there in at least groups of six to ten. Lot's of UA 777s too, as well as Iberia's fleet of A319s. Lot's of planes that usually do not overnight in Miami from LanChile, TAM, Varig, and others, are also grounded. Given the time of the stoppage of flights, there all European-bound planes for Miami from Europe did not reach Miami. Lufthansa's 747 ended up in Bermuda, Air France's 747, which was already half way across the Atlantic, made it to Lisbon, the other flight, an A340, never took off. Iberia's 747 made it back to Madrid, the A340 never took off. I do not know about the status of other planes.

There are about 25 diverted aircraft currently sitting idle at Port Columbus. CMH is at a level 4 emergency, so I was not able to park my car anywhere. I did circumnavigate the airport twice, and noticed the following diverted aircraft, this list does not include aircraft that were originally scheduled to depart from CMH:

1 TWA 767-300
1 TWA MD-80
1 TWA 717-200
1 Midwest Express DC-9-30
4 Northwest Airlines DC-9's
2 Northwest Airlink Avro RJ's
1 Continental MD-80
2 Continental 737's
1 Continental Express ERJ-145
1 United Airlines 727-200
2 or 3 United Airlines A320's and A319's
5 or 6 America West A320's and A319's
5 or 6 Southwest 737's
2 or 3 America West Express CRJ's
About a dozen USAirways and USAirways Express aircraft, including several A319's and A320's, F-100's, ERJ's and Saabs.

Most of these aircraft were parked at the airport's east overflow ramp, several other were stationed on the taxiway to runway 28L. Some of the diverted USAirways aircraft were parked at their gates at Concourse A.
My deepest condolences to all the people affected by the horendous tragedies that took place this morning. God bless America.

Tons of other planes, but they are all normal AUS flights.

There is a plane from JFK en route to Guatemala parked at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE). The airplane flew over lower Manhatten and one passenger took a picture of the burning towers just as the United 767 impacted.

Needless to say, the image was very disturbing.

As far as I know, not too many planes diverted to San Diego - Lindbergh Field, as the airport is pretty small and was already crowded with every flight intended to leave that morning. I heard all flights diverting to the SD-TIJ region landed in Tijuana.

From what I've heard, almost all of Frontier Airline's aircraft are in DEN currently. Since there aren't enough gates to accomodate all of Frontier's aircraft, many are sitting in the tarmac.

I've heard the same for United. There are more United planes in DEN than there are gates TOTAL, so many of the planes must be sitting on the tarmac.

What a mess...........

At SMF, we only received one diversion due to the early hour of the attacks West Coast time. The only diversion was a UA 777-200 SFO-DEN. The passengers were deplaned and bussed away.

Currently at MSY (New Orleans Int'l):

USAirways: 2 737's, 1 MD-80
Northwest: 1 DC-9
Southwest: 8 737's, including Nevada One
Continental: 4 737's, 2 MD-80's
America West: 1 757
TWA: 1 717
American: 2 MD-88, 1 727
Delta: 1 767, 1 767, 2 MD-88
National: 1 757

Of those, the National 757, the America West 757, and 2 of the American's were diversions.

Not 100% sure on these, cause I havent been able to get out to the airport, but from what I saw on local news, the a/c parked in YEG (Edmonton) are a UA 777, BA 744 and 777, Air France 777 (i think), and possibly others, but definitely bigger and more exotic than we normally get... Most flights bound from Asia, some from Korea, BA and AF possibly from Europe to YYC or to the states.

May our thoughts and prayers be with all the victims and survivors of this terrible incident... May we never forget...  Crying

Here In Rochester, New York

Wed Sep 12, 2001 1:42 pm

I drove by ROC about two hours ago (10:30 pm EST). The police had blocked off the road into the terminal so I couldn't get close. But I still could see from the sides and Scottsville Road.

At the terminal:
US F100; US A319; 2 US ERJ's and 3 US DH8's.
CO ERJ, view blocked to second CO gate.
UA 319, UA 320
Two AA MD-80's; one AA 757-200. The second M80 and the 752 are definitely diversions; AA only has one jet here at a time and they fly no 752's here.
View blocked to Northwest gates.

At the Piedmont-Hawthorne hangar on Scottsville Road, a very unusual sight: America West Express CRJ. Probably a flight from CMH to BOS or LGA diverted.

At west cargo complex: Emery 722, DHL 721, and Airborne DC-9-30. No planes at FedEx ramp.

Empty skies tonight of course. Very eerie feeling.

While driving on the highway outside of YYZ, I saw a Northwest Airlines 747-400 (probably diverted from Detroit) coming in on final. I don't think I'll ever see that aircraft at YYZ again.

Nothing out of the ordinary parked here at Sky Harbor. It's a surreal scene here, all terminals occupied by planes, but dead quiet like a ghost town. At one of the popular spotting sites (Air Lane--adjacent to 26L) it's pretty much desolate, except for the presence of one other spotter and a 12News van. Very eerily quite here.

As I drove to work on my usual route by ATL, it seemed very weird not seeing any flight operations at all. I counted at least 2 dozen Clayton County Police and Sheriff's just along a two mile stretch on Loop Road. As for diversions, a TWA MD-83, a TWA 757 (a rare bird except for Rams charters), numerous Delta birds, and really that's about it. SAA's 747-400 is still parked on "E", and a few planes are parked at South Cargo (I really didn't double back to see the tails more clearly, due to the large law enforcement presence around the area). As I drove back by North Cargo and Delta TOC North on my way home about an hour ago, the TWA birds had been moved (where I really don't know), and the area around TOC North reminds me of Delta's holiday ops with all of the aircraft parked on the North side of the airport.

In HKG, there's:

2 CO 777s (Yesterday's departure returned)
5 Atlas 747s
2 UA 744s.
1 NW 747-200
1 NW 747-200F
1 UPS 757
1 Fedex MD11.

Nothing that doesn't normally fly here. Most of the above should not be here at this time of day though.

I was at YYC today.. Arron of what he said was correct but there were not 6 777s.. 1 of them was a 767 and 4 were 777s.. But Taxiway Golf where it opens up to the main apron was completely blocked off with cops.. I took picts and Will upload it when I get em developed soon.

It was nuts.. At least I saw a 744 and a A300 in Fed Ex something rare.

How do I get near the airport??? My plant is about 500 yards from the airport fence and there are businesses that are even closer. The state troopers, sheriffs, and police from High Point and Greensboro have cars sitting at all the lookout points though, so I couldn't get a good look.

Apparently, one of Tradewind's Interlease L1011s has been moved to a terminal?!?!? That's the first time one of those has been moved in over a year.

YYZ on Wednesday Morning, not sure if I can get them all because they are all parked in the same spot all on the de-icing pad, there is not a single airplane parked at the gate on Terminal 3, not even the ones that are supposed to be in toronto. Right now there are 2 Elal747-400's, three Lufthansa 747-400's, a United 777 and Singapore 777, lots of UA and NWA 320's. some NWA 727's and DC9's, NWA 747-400, two NWA DC10's, an AA777 two AA767's, an AA757, two or three AA737-800's, and a Malev 767, as well as an Aeroflot 767, and a Virgin 747-200. Lots of Canada 3000 planes, and there are a few others out there I will walk over to a window and see if I can pick them out, but they are parked on the other side of the airport.

Just noticed, PIA A310, Air France 340 and a BA747. BTW the Terminal it self is like a ghost town, virtually no one around, other then a few employees...VERY VERY STRANGE to see the place this dead, when you are used to it being packed and busy all the time.
