Hero Pilot Versus Shot Down?

Wed Sep 12, 2001 2:07 pm

First let me apologize if this thread is already spinning out...it is hard to keep up with this tragedy...

Second let me say that everyone here in Toronto is so shocked and horrified...

My comment is that I cannot believe that any pilot would have knowingly flown a plane into a building in NYC - either they had been killed/injured or removed from the cockpit - my thought is that a pilot, knowing that whatever he did he would be killed, would have flown out into the Atlantic, hijackers be damned...

It makes me wonder about the UA flight in Pennsylvania...it is interesting that all reports were of fighter jets scrambling, hijacked plane missing, and the breaking news e-mail from CNN, "hijacked plane no longer a threat..."

I'm sorry to say but I believe that hijackers who could fly took over all 4 flights and that the 4th flight was shot out of the sky before it could make it to Washington...

If that is not the case, which I believe we will find out from the Cockpit Voice Recorder, we will find out what happened...I know that the crew on all 4 planes did what they could to protect the lives of their passengers and crew and those of people below them...God bless them.

I cannot imagine the horror...my thoughts are with those in the airline family who have lost so much...

The magnitidue of today makes us forget that FOUR planes went down today...I'm not on my stats...but probably more than in the last several years...

My thoughts are with the crews who I know did so much to try and stop the horror...

Unless they turned the CVR off when they hijacked it...
And yes, Godbless them all.

That was also a thing, which puzzled me. A normal pilot wouldn't fly an aircraft into a building. If he knows, he will be shot down anway, he would do whatever he can to lower the damage.

As Notar520AC says, I also belive, that in such well planned attack, the CVR was probably turned off to prevent the authorities to find a the guilty.

I am also very interested, what happened to the plane, which crashed in Pensylvania. WHere was it heading and why didn't he make it?

I agree. No pilot no matter how threatened or even having a gun pointing to his head would fly into a building especially the WTC. He wouldn't have crashed his plane either because that would mean taking innocent lives with him. He was probably 'removed' and only the terrorists with pilot skills obviously took over.

The plane that crashed sounded as if there might have been a fight and someone was trying to wrestle power in the cockpit.Or something went wrong..

Where was the plane headed to? If it had made its destination?

They might have hijacked the planes and flew them themselves after they took over control. B757 and B767 have common flight decks with combined licence...
