Scary Thought: Did Perpatrators Use This Forum?

Wed Sep 12, 2001 4:35 pm

Since most of us in this forum have a good insight into the industry, I can't help but wonder if these terrorists ever accessed this sight to get a deeper understanding of airline operations and procedures. They obviously had sufficient knowledge of their aircraft and their performance and by accessing our forum, they could gain an even greater knowledge. That has been going through my mind alot today.

CNN is reporting that Arab language flight manuals for the aircraft involved were found in the rental car used by two Arab brothers who were part of the hijacking teams. The car was found at Logan Airport. Authorities were made aware of it by a man who had gotten into an argument with the suspects, and remembered them once he had reached his destination.

I had an equal thought yesterday...

but if you want to gain information, there is no problem to get it. Especially the internet is a great source for information of all kind and I won't stopping providing information for anyone as I can't imagine that these guys used this site for gaining their information.

If they wouldn't get it here they will get it anywhere on the net.

Should Microsoft stop its Flighsimulator ? The terrorists might have trained with it how to fly an aircraft...

Don't think of that. Think of all the people involved and let the bodies rest in peace. My thoughts and feelings are with them and their families...

I'd laugh too if I hadn't read the "America Finally Takes it in the A**" thread that appeared shortly after the tragedy but was quickly deleted...

What's wrong with alerting the FAA and FBI about this site? Maybe they can do some research of the discussion group archives and find something?

All they would have seen here were Airbus vs. Boeing fights.
Oh and they would have learned what our favorite liveries were.

KROC, great to see your in the forums and OK. I know you're far from 'The Big Apple'

I dont agree. Go read the tech discussion forum. Everything from starting procedures for a 767 to decent rates at various fuel quantities for a 727-200 are discussed in that forum.

I BEG that the owner of this site contacts the FBI and FAA!!!!!!

Not only technical questions related to planes but also the whole scenario of hitting WTC has actually been discussed here!

geez you guys think that anyone would use this site to gain insight to hijack, and fly aircraft into the WTC and Pentagon? I think a lot of you underestimate what these guys are capable of. I'm sorry but this thread makes me laugh! And to top it of you dont think American Intelligence agencies aren't already aware of this site? Please people...

Everyone here should watch what they are saying. Anyone who has an internet connection in the world can read the stuff in these forums. Somebody might have insulted someone, or said something they shouldn't have.

Yeah...The Airbus vs Boeing wars must have given the terrorists a deeper understanding of airline operations and procedures...I feel regret for having taken part in these A vs B wars...

Heck, getting B757/767 information is super easy on the 'net. Heck I bought a complete set of Delta B767 flight operation manuals on e-bay a few weeks ago.

I doubt it. Much of the banter on this forum is non-technical anyway. I doubt that a fanatic willing to blow himself up along with a pax-laden jetliner would be interested in issues like favourite airline liveries.

That's a really good theory, but...

...you can read all you want about something, but without firsthand experience, I think it's hard to get an understanding of anything on just "book knowledge" alone. They probably had airport jobs for a while to adapt to the jargon and procedures at airports.

If you really want to test my theory, go to a message board for something that you're not even remotely interested in and try to pick up on some things without doing them firsthand. Like sewing or something, see what I mean?

Terrorists might have used this site, but it didn't really matter. The REAL insight needed for this attack would come from technical references and professionals ... not from the silly nits who normally share "favorites" on this forum.

The man said it right hours ago...

Or they could have just read Tom Clancy's Debt of Honor, or Dale Brown's Storming Heaven -- both of which feature large airliners being crashed into buildings, and both which came WELL before this site even got started!!

Here at DAB we have a Continental 737 with a graffiti saying To Bush With love, but thank God that plane is safe and nothing suspicious was found onboard.

"Since most of us in this forum have a good insight into the industry"

Give me a break! So many of you described the planes that hit the WTC anywhere from a Saab 340 to a Cessna.

What insight do you all have? If you cant tell the difference between a prop. or a commercial a/c.

Read the post:Topic: Airplane Crashed Into The World Trade Center. Read how ALL you "knowledgeable" aviation enthusiasts described what you saw. I think its high time the ones who might "think" you are so smart, have you asses put in place.

You are all so quick to accuse the media of stating false information, are you all any better? Read some of the posts about this God awful disaster, most of you should be ashamed of yourselves the way you are arguing over this!!!!!!! This is the time that America should stand together. So quit fighting over such dribble, and SHUT UP and get along! We're not talking about Boeing vs Airbus here, we're talking about the lives that have been lost in this tragedy.

GROW UP PEOPLE!

Several of my instructors now fly for the airlines. When I go to their place, I can freely thumb through the POH's and flight manuals for the Airbus and the Dash8.

When I was working for the airforce I had access to the flight manual of the Dash8. Everything from emergency procedures, pitot static layouts to performance charts.

You could get your CPL and then go to FlightSafety for some SIM time.

Sure that's not going to be enough to actually land a job with AirCanada but hey to fly the plane for 15 minutes or so and to point it in the right direction ...It'll be good enough for destructive work.

These days if you put your mind to it you could learn to fly the shuttle if you wanted to. Just a matter of finding out where the info is.

I just heard someone saying that they are blaming Canada because the sims the alegged terrorist used were built in Canada.

I am sure most people are more resonablein their assessment of causes leading to yesterday's tragedy

It will be remembered as mankind's darkest hour. Ten's of thousands of people killed in under 2 hours.

It could be rivaled only by the nukes on Japan.

My two cents worth
