Ua #93 (Possible) "Good" News

Thu Sep 13, 2001 1:51 pm

This is just sketchy infor that I heard quickly mentioned on CNN:

Apparently, a family member received a call from a passenger on flt #93, and the passenger said that they had heard about the wtc attacks that had just occurred, and that they (the passengers) were planning to attack the hijackers (evidently, to prevent them carrying out their plans.)

Obviously, that's mostly speculation but to me it fits, because that would explain the plane crashing nowhere near any real target. Seems consistant with a struggle in the cockpit. Obviously it's terrible that they all died but what I'm saying is that if this is what happened then these passengers, by disrupting the hijackers and ultimately crashing the plane, surely saved hundreds or thousands of people on the ground, depending on what the plane's intended target was. That sounds really heroic to me, so in a way, almost "good news".

i'm sorry if this was in bad taste or something but it seemed newsworthy to me.. anyone have anything to add?
Next flight.... who knows.

Their families should be awarded medals in their honors, and should never have to pay taxes of any kind again!

It's too bad the pax on the 3 other planes didn't get the same idea otherwise the we would be mouring 266 people instead of possibly over 20,000. If I was there I would rather crash the plane and have 40-50 die rather than a building full of people.

just to add a wee bit of substance to my speculation, here is the actual little tidbit from the cnn site:
"• Relatives of a passenger on the plane that crashed in rural Pennsylvania said he related during a phone call that men on board voted to try to overpower the three hijackers. Shortly after that call, the plane went down, as it appeared headed for Washington. "

Next flight.... who knows.

Another reason we need Sky Marshalls on board.

and I heard tonight that this is under serious consideration by the F.A.A.: placing a Marshall onboard every single commercial jetliner.

Planes take off every 4 seconds in the USA. There will not be an air marhsall on every single jetliner. That would be foolish.

I think the airlines might go for this only if the air marshall can replace one of the flight attendants on each flight, although I'm guessing the unions wouldn't exactly embrace that plan.
