No, I think they will do what they did in Oklahoma City after the Federal Bldg bombing: clear it out and build a memorial.

Since possibly 20,000 or more people died it's only appropriate, dont you think

I can't imagine another office building there.

VS is still flying
NYC is still there
EWR is still there (the photo...?)
Something great will take the place of the WTC's in time!
We must always move, onward, upward and forward!

Never see again?

I think not !!!!

Giulianni already stated we will build ASAP.

The towers will stand again in the not so distant future. The greatest monument to those that perished is to build those towers again. If we don't build those towers again then yes we have been defeated.

if the greatest monument to those who perished is to rebuild, then why would they not have rebuilt the Federal bldg in OKC?

Taking what you're saying, then the U.S. gov't has been "defeated" there.

Because there is no more buildable land on the island of Manhattan. It's an economic necessity. Not a question of "if we should".

12 million sq ft of office space just dissapeared. The property is worht hundreds of millions of dollars. Where do you suggest the tenants of the world trade center conduct business?

Take a 20 minute walk from the center of OKC and your in the company of field gophers.

Even if I'm not american, I know about these towers. Who doesn't.
And to me it doesn't matter if they rebuild them. It will never be the same again. Even if they will look the same.
When in doubt, flat out!

Like the fiery Phoenix, our WTC will rise from the ashes, and will be bigger and better than before!

In my own opinion, they should build a new World Trade Center twin towers complex, make it even bigger and taller just to show the world that we will not stand for cowardly acts by faceless forces. That would be the biggest memorial to the thousands that have perished in this tragedy. And would show the world our resolve in the face of tragedy.

Oh, the towers will be rebuilt, bigger and better. No question. They will forever stand as a symbol of American liberty and justice and as a memorial to the fallen.

In OKC, they thought it was more appropriate to build their disturbing memorial of hate. Not everyone agreed it was the best idea.

The towers will be rebuilt, take my word for it. There will be no trophy for the cowards.

It would be appropriate to rebuild the buildings and make a memorial in a courtyard in remeberance.

That way life could continue as it always had but the memorial would be a constant reminder of what happened.

Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Dresden, London, Tokyo and many other cities bombed into the stonage were all rebuilt in the wake of allied bombing raids which claimed many lives. Over 100,000 thousand lives were lost in the incindiery bombing raids of Tokyo alone.

We must rebuild. Not to would be an insult to those who were lost.

I hope they rebuild the WTC towers. Just to show to the assholes - sorry, I meant the responsibles - that the civilized world will not go down, not even after such a horrible day.

I dunno.

I think they'll erect a massive monument/memorial to all the victims of terrorism in the free world...perhaps re-building part of the world Trade complex also.

This is big. This is bigger than people realize. Not just the office workers..but the visitors, people on the street, and nearby offices that fell also, and there was a Hotel that collapsed tonight too. So it is not just the Twin Towers. As many as 800 to 1000 might be dead in the pentagon, plus the 250 or so in the planes. I keep hearing conflicting numbers about the population of the TwinTowers: 20,000, 30,000, 40,000 people.

We have not seen numbers like this since the last war.

Touchy subject.
Who will want to work in a high-rise now, after something like this? Maybe the idea of building 100+ floor buildings will change now, in the same manner that air travel will change.
I dont know, maybe even airliner designs will change.(?)

I have many good memories of the Twin Towers. More so "Windows on the World" one of the nicest bar and resturaunt ,which was recently renovated, that I have ever eaten in. As a matter of fact I had plans to take my girlfriend there this week.

My Aunts wedding reception was in a private room at the resturaunt where we had an entire corner of the building. The view was amazing. It was an increadible experience to have been up there.

Its places like "Windows on the World" that make NYC what it is. The people of NYC arent ready to give that up and I'm sure the dead would agree.

The city without the towers is like a a Bruce Lee movie without Bruce Lee. It doesn't work.

JETPILOT, I agree. I was there a long time ago, I dont remember the restaurant but I remember a Rizzoli bookstore. I remember timing the elevator trip from the ground floor to the 107th floor viewdeck at 58 secs, compared to nearly 2.5 min to the 86th floor on the Empire State. Unparalleled views, you could stick your face to the window, look down and everything was so, so tiny.
People had to jump those heights.
Unfathomable.

I spent one week in NY in August. It was my first visit and I have taken a lot of pictures of the WTC. I can't look at them at the moment...it's so sad.  Sad

Speedbird244, Although I understand what you're getting at, I don't think this will stop people working in high office buildings, or travelling on planes. As tragic as this is, and however much it has affected us now, in the long run, this act of terrorism will not stop us from returning to our daily lives, and to let this affect us would effectively be letting these terrorists win.

September 11, 2001 will always be remembered as the worst day in American history. It will be a day that will remind us of just how big of a problem terrorism is in the world. It is the day that changed the way we live here in the U.S. The beautiful Twin Towers of The capital of the WORLD...down...lives changed...airtravel changed. A memorial will go up and it will be taller and stronger than anything ever dreamed It will make NYC not only the capital of the WORLD but of OUR HEARTS!!!!

I know you are right DASA, Its just that the perspectives of these 2 beautiful modern engineering marvels - airliners and high-rise buildings - have changed somewhat thanks to whats occured. Instead of just hijacking an airliner and landing it somewhere, they can now abduct more than one (4) and hurl them towards targets.
Life does go on, but an event like this must never be allowed to happen again.

And whats to say in 8 years time when the NEW towers are built and all the security drops back to the terrible level it was last week that another group of nutters will fly two more planes into them and say

"Whatever you build we can destroy"

I would love to see two new towers built in their place but there are so many things to think about.
