Terrorists Had A Ramp Pass

Thu Sep 13, 2001 8:08 pm

I knew it, they were working on the ramp. This is awful, how could fellow ramp workers not notice these terrorists exhibiting any unusual or nervous activity during the day of the crash? Something must've been different on the day when this took place than any other day.

As a seasonal ramp worker, I would really like to see security check the ramp workers before they gain access to the tarmac.

Nothing reported of this. There was a report from Rome about the theft of some uniforms and papers from a hotelroom belonging to AA staff some time ago.
A warning went out to AA personell worldwide afterwards.

there are so many dangers!
last year, it was discovered that a Munich airport employee who had to load and unload luggage for airlines such as El-Al was an...Islamist fundamentalist.

The only reports I saw about stollen badges were pilot uniform and badges that were stollen in rome. And there was a report oof a memo issued to AA employees advising to look for imposter pilots. nothing about badges that give access to the ramp.

The only way anyone with a ramp pass (these were vehicle access passes, by the way) could get onto the ramp is with a current airport id that grants them access to the SIDA (Security Identification Display Area), which includes the ramp, baggage areas, essentially anywhere where the public is not allowed. And if they or not an airline or airport employee, the only way they could get onto the ramp with a ramp pass is if they had an escort vehicle from a firm that works at the airport (airline, gound handling contractor, catering, cabin cleaners), which would lead one to believe that they had someone on the inside at BOS, EWR, and IAD. If there were in fact badges and uniforms stolen from American employees in Rome, the badges would be useless in gaining ramp access at maniy airports, since one must swipe their id badge in order to gain access to restricted areas, and once these employees reported their badges stolen, they would have been deactivated by the computer systems that control the access points at airports. I mean these systems are so good, that if your badge expires on a Monday, and you don't get it renewed that day, you can't go into restricted areas on Tuesday, because the system locks out your id.
