AAL11 Tracked After Impact.

Fri Sep 14, 2001 12:47 am

Hey,

I tracked this with trip.com after hearing what happened, I was curious as to what it would tell me and this is what I got:

American Airlines
#11 Departing Logan Intl, MA 8:00 am In Flight Above Jersey City, NJ 29,000ft 358
mph B762
Arriving Los Angeles Intl, CA 10:37 am 2458 mi E

Does trip.com's tracker acctually update according to where the plane is? Or maybe they just do it kind of in general and assume the plane would be at 29 thousand feet that far into the flight? I suppose the speed may be correct though.

Not sure what I think of it.

Anyone have any ideas/reactions?

I'm sure the information given is initially taken from the flight plan...and then update periodically.

the trip's flighttracker is by no means an accurate tool. Look at the number of flights nearing their final destination as being 5,000 feet and traveling 392 mph.

Flighttracker is nice, but it's by no means accurate. I used to watch planes out my office window on final to DCA, then check on flighttracker to find they're still over West Virginia or some other state.

Haha, alright. I haven't been able to check on it that much, just wanted to find out.

Thanks.

I pulled up www.fboweb.com as soon as I found out about the a/c. Long before the media reported the flight number, this site showed AA11 terminating in downtown Manhattan.

I tracked UA 93 after I heard there had been a crash with that flight in Pennsylvania...thetrip.com had it frozen in the air at 31000 feet over Pennsylvania going to...Washington D.C. (!!)
