Your Best Aviation Experience

Fri Sep 14, 2001 12:39 pm

Here's one to lighten the mood.
What is your favorite, and more positive aviation/airline experience?

Cheers,
T.J.

Riding the cockpit jumpseat from SFB to LGW on Air2000.

My friend and I were airport employees this past summer and we got to fly stand-by to LGW and stay for free with his cousin, London was great, but I'd be lying if I said being in that 763 for takeoff wasn't the highlight of my trip.

When me and a former girlfriend took of from Gran Canaria. We slowely taxied out on the runway and he throttled up just a little, and then the pilot really went for it. I have flewn alot, but this was really fun! It was raw power that came out of thoose 2 RR engines.
This is one of the reasons why I like the 757 so much.
And also why I feel.....you know the rest.
When in doubt, flat out!

Take off from Sion, Switzerland on a Crossair flight.
There are mountains all around the airport. Take off on a sunny day with snow is magestic.
Pilots must be really good and a have special licence for this airport!

My best airline experience is on a flight returning from Agadir, Morocco to Dublin, Ireland on Aer Lingus. After a really dodgy week in Morocco, where I got really sick from ice cubes used in orange juice, Aer Lingus offered a tasty Irish breakfast at 3am, an hour into the flight. Fantastic...

Riding the cockpit jumpseat on all segments from Brussels to Ouagadoudou to Bamako and back on a Sabena A330.

Great experience!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Regards, SN-A330
I would rather be flying...

The best experiences would have to be the jumpseat landings:

F100 G-BYDN CDG-HEL Air France operated by Gill Airways
MD82 LN-ROU HEL-ARN Scandinavian Airlines
A320 C-FKPT ORD-YYZ Air Canada
DHC8 C-FHRC YQB-YUL Air Nova

Ansett Australia flight 888 from Hong Kong to Sydney was fantastic too, I was on the upper deck with 7 fellow passengers and two flight attendants.
Sadly, cockpit visits are likely impossible from now on and my beloved Ansett Australia is gone  Sad Aviation won't be the same.

British Airways, LHR-YUL/YVR.

All flights were on the B747, one of the best planes around. The food as well as the service was top-notch.

Swissair, ZRH-DXB/AGP

Very quiet airbus planes. Food was very tasty and service once again top-notch.

Proud to be an Assyrian!

I guess it would be my first flight as a kid.
A United Airlines 727-100 from Los Angeles to San Diego (we flew down to go to the zoo....).

Yeah, that's definitely too bad about the flight deck visits. Fully understandable, but it's a shame that aviation fans like us, who wouldn't dare do anything to our beloved airplanes, crew and fellow citizens, are completely harmless in the cockpit.. but alas, ruined by those awful terrorists...

my best experience where on theses airlines :

My first experience :
NWA(dc9-30-40-50) between YUL-MSP
I loved the way the pilot was keeping his cool
with the turbulence... very calm...
he said : "well guys seem to be a bit shaky.. we'll climb a bit
to see if it's better...."...then down.. a bit...
loved that...

SQ(747-400) between EWR-AMS-SIN
SQ(747-400) between SIN-CDG
AF(777-??) between SIN-CDG
SQ(747-400) between JFK-FRA-SIN
best flight, best food, best services, good champagne
good beer and atmosphere in frankfurt

but nicest airport = singapore
so efficient...

SQ stewardess... always so kind... SQ invest in
little things that make that difference...

AA (777-??) between NRT-DFW
best phone services, good flight, good food

All the domestic AA flight =
lots of delays

loved the experience of
Canadian 767 between YVR-YUL
super stable, nice service... vancouver new terminal
== superbe... nice mountain view...

UA(747-400) between NRT-SIN
worst flight I ever flown (not the company but the flight
worst turbulence I ever experience
hearing over the intercom the captain feeling lots of
stress...telling in a very stressfull voice
"control.. here NRT flight#...."

Korean airline between LAX and Seoul
fastest flight I experience.. could feel he was pushing
the plane the whole time... arrived 2h+ earlier than due time.
a bit scary for the turbulence... food... heu... no comment :_0

Well that's some of my experience...
All the others are im sure quite good too...
but theses last one are some that touched me
and that I will always remember...

well I send my condoleances to all the victims families

Standing in the back of a very very lightly-loaded Delta flight from SLC-SAT one time, chatting with the flight attendants and laughing for the flight, and then we all sat in the back and watched a thunderstorm that we were diverting around in the sky -- it was so very, very beautiful... it looked alive.

I wish I'd landed at Kai Tak once... just to experience it - and Hong Kong after that! Talk about sensory overload!

Easy!

About three weeks ago, AA flight 2347, Boeing 777! ORD to DFW!

Paid about $200 for coach and got last row of business class due to plane having international configuration and using only two class seating on this leg!

Plane was only about half full made for a great take off!

Had two storm fronts that we flew right between, thunderstorms to the left and right.

Food was good and got to watch "Everybody loves Raymond" on my PTV!

Truly a fabulous aircraft!

Rgds,

Greg
