When Will Foreign Carriers Restart USA Service?

Fri Sep 14, 2001 11:08 pm

I wasjust curious as to what the delay is about when foreign carriers will restart USA service. Surely the european ones at least have security standards up to FAA standards. Any input anyone has will be greatly appreciated. I have a some coworkers that are stranded over there and they are cluless with little information. So they asked meto do a post.Mainly they are interested in LH and Air France. Thank you.

When they are allowed to go?
Alitalia was on their way alredy yesterday, but got called back to Rome. So obviously there is great confusion.
Security has little with airline or airline nationality to do. Security is an AIRPORT issue mainly. And mainly DEPARTURE airport.

It is natural that in this situation there are several law enforcement structures within the USA who are not totally aware who are responcible for what. It will take some days to get responcibility lines sorted out and get new rules implemented globally. There will probably be a lot of "stop-go-stop" incidents over the next week or two. Take it easy, or stay at home. Until October. My $.02.

We at MTY have 3 daily flights to ATL and they keep sending ETD for our incoming flights and then 30min prior to departure they send a cancelation msg I don't think the airlines have a clue yet and for what its worth not even does the FAA.

In fact, most foreign airlines - and airports - have security standards much higher than those of the FAA (at least until last Tuesday). The list of permitted foreign carriers and airports can be found here: http://www.faa.gov/ats/ata/airport_cert/foreignairport.html
