Anybody Remember Old Pan Am Giving Birthday Cakes?

Wed Sep 19, 2001 2:15 am

In the late 80s, I flew on PA across the
Atlantci quite often. What I remember
most was that if I flew on my birthday,
the flight attedants woudl bring me a nice
birthday cake after meal service. This
happened to me twice. I think they got
the info from my frequent flyer account
and matched against my reservation.
There was also a nice bottle of wine or
champange for me to take home.

Anyway, whenever I bring up the story
with my friends who are currently in the
aviation industry, they don't believe me.
Help me out, guys, I know some of you
got the cakes as well.... I knew I should
have taken some pictures back then...

I also remember flying Pan Am across the Atlantic too around 90 or early 91 but of course, it was just a vague memory since I was only six years old. However, I flew Thai Airways most of the time since I used to live in Thailand for a long time until five years ago, and yes, they do give birthday cakes on THAI on my birthday, or at least they have one prepared for me! But it was very nice, so yes I do believe you that Pan Am gave you a cake and some nice things to go along with it. Smile

Hi Bobcat, as a former PanAm F/A, I can vouch for your receiving a B-day cake inflight. I am not sure if yours' was from a frequent flyer account, but I know of more than one instance that it was requested by the person making the reservation. Ex. - a child's was put on when dad made the res and told the res agent we'd be inflight on the child's birthday. I also had a cake put on once when we had a couple that had just gotten married that afternoon and one of their parents' had mentioned it to res(We were also give an extra bottle o champagne and they were in Economy).

I also was on a trip to Tokyo back in 84' and we were scheduled to deadhead(for those who don't know, that is riding as passengers) to Bankok on JAL. It was my girlfriends' birthday. So I told the purser in the Economy cabin about it and they brought her a cake(you should have heard 16 Japenese women singing "Happy Birthday"-the only reason I bring that up is because the Head purser was a man and you would NEVER have had a man do that, especially to a young Japenese woman as my friend was). Anyway it was a lot of fun!!
