Federalizing Airport Security?

Wed Sep 19, 2001 2:37 am

As I was getting ready for work today saw a morning talk show with Senator Gordon Smith from Oregon, and he was talking about the possibility of federalizing airport security as a means to solve the problem of lax security. He didn't go into any details, but I got the impression that it would be outside (i.e. not a part of) the FAA.
It seems like a good idea to put the goverment in charge, as they might have the money (pulled from the aviation trust fund) to set-up some kind of deal like that. But then you run into the whole question of government involovement and the inherent problems in that. (bloated bureauacracies etc...)
Your thoughts and ideas?

Sorry if this has already been posted!

Tom
