RE: In Europe Miterrand By Caravelle

Years ago I saw ex-France president Miterrand landing at our airport (Maastricht-Aachen (MAA)). He was flying the state Sud Aviation Caravelle. During the approach the plane was guided by 2 police Bolkows.

Were they to get a new one today, it would probably be an A330 or A340, but when the A310 was purchased it was probably the most advanced available.

PolAir: European Tax Payers Are More Critical!

Wed Sep 19, 2001 10:58 pm

European officials fly modest aircraft in matter of size. They do not use an aircraft for showing the power and success of their country. I know the chinese, arab/some african countries and USA think different about this matter. I think the tax payers in Europe are more critical about how the governments are spending public money.

Chirac is very good at swimming. He doesn't need a plane.

The French also have a state Falcon 900, probably more for intra-Europe trips. IIRC Chirac rode that when he was in Helsinki some time back.

Air Orange-

If you don't have a 747 where are all the press going to sit, on the wings?

Also the President does conduct business on AF1.

Everything isn't always for show. If that was the case he would probably take the Space Shuttle.
