Highjackers Flew Spirit To EWR

From Travel Weekly:

NEWS - Agent Issues

Fla. agency booked two suspected hijackers (9/19/2001)

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A five-person, storefront travel agency here has found itself caught in one of the many webs created in the recent terrorist attacks in the U.S.
Mile High Travel booked two of the suspected hijackers on their flights from Florida to Newark.

An agent, who asked not to be named, said the pair paid cash for one-way economy class tickets on Spirit Airlines.

After news of the terrorist assaults and some details on suspects emerged, the agency called the FBI.

At this juncture, the firm's personnel are concerned about negative publicity that might result from the discovery of who their clients were.
Looks like no airline was safe at that time.

RE: Highjackers Flew Spirit To EWR

This reminds me of an incident I had on Spirit last October. I was flying from FLL-LGA. We were delayed (of course) and when we were finally boarding and I was waiting on the jetway the pilot walked past us escorting a middle eastern man back to the terminal. The woman next to me asked where he was going and the captain simply replied "Don't worry, he's not going to be on this flight". The whole thing kind of made me uneasy. I tried to reassure myself that I was just judging him on his looks.

After they announced our flight would be going to Newark intead of LGA I stormed off, partly because of how uneasy that whole thing made me feel (and also by how late I would have gotten home).

It just makes me wonder if this guy was snooping around or something.

I guess this just goes to show hijackers love a bargain too, if only Spirit could have delayed them for days or something.
