Airbus Freezes Production

Thu Sep 20, 2001 10:42 pm

Hello,

because the disater in the U.S. airbus freezes all production, exept for the production of the a 380.
They say that won't cut jobs like Boeing did.

Regards, sas a340.

hmm.
no production == no income
no income == no money to pay the people they're not laying off
no paying people with a claim on you == bankruptcy

A380 is still years from entering production (even a prototype).

Sounds like another troll attempt.

They don't ment the actual production of the a 380, but the develepment I think.
And airbus said that they are flexibel enough to avoid job cuts.

No, you're incorrect. If you read the press link below, Airbus are freezing expansion plans. Production should be unchanged, hence no forseeable job losses. A different thing entirely!

Dutch television is wellknown for not being able to read, write talk or understand English (or any language apart from Amsterdamned).

sas a340. I note that they still think they will continue with development of the A380. If LH pull their orders etc, will they still feel the same way?
I've scoured all the usual sources for info, but the BBC is still the only one running the story.
Found any other info sources?

I think dutch tv have got their wires crossed....

Yes, I would also interpret this as meaning they will no longer implement a ramp up of production. Previously it had been felt that they were starting to lose some narrow body orders because there was too long a wait for new aircraft. This may no longer be a problem!

BCal DC10,
LH has just decided to postpone their decision. Delaying an order for 6 month or 1 year on an aircraft still in development is not a big issue.
And after the schock, people will fly again, as they did after the Gulf war (mid 90s were the most profitable years for the airlines... )
This morning, I heard an EADS spokeman on a French radio. His comments were the following:
1) Some deliveries will be postponed . Some will be cancelled. It will reduce the pressure in the production lines, and Airbus will not have to expand facilities or hire more staff to cope with demand. As a result , you do not invest money and increase the costs.
2) With its current size, Airbus is flexible.
3) EADS does not produce only Airbus. EADS stands for European Aeronautic Defense and Space company. They produce missiles, fighters , electronic defense equipment.
Nana...

Sas a340: on Dutch teletext on channel 4(RTL 4 in Dutch)They clearly say that airbus will freeze the production.

They are obviously wrong. German TV news spoke of "freezing of some planned investments". So it´s really just the expansion that´s halted. Stopping production would make no sense whatsoever.
