Why Hasn't JetBlue Been Effected By The Economy?

Sat Sep 22, 2001 7:30 am

Why? My guess is that they're still small enough with plenty of cash and smaller labor costs. Also, they are publicy traded.

They Have, No Doubt, Been Affected...

Sat Sep 22, 2001 7:43 am

...but as a privately-held company, they may disclose or withhold information as they choose.

As a lower-cost carrier, of course, they may be in a relatively favorable position. But one doubts that they have not been affected at all.

They did cut some frequency and their labor costs can't be too high because they are offering $12 to start part-time

Everyone is being affected by the tragic events that occured during Sept 11., 2001. Some more than others hopefully JetBlue will not suffer as much as others that are going through very difficult times.

heh...

well I've heard from some friends who are flight attendants that loads have been quite aweful... some flights have only had 30 people on them... and at $150 r/t to NYC from Florida, there is NO way they are breaking even.

Even the recession-proof Southwest is making cut backs.

Only problem with JetBlue is that everyone here keeps ASSUMING they have all this capital... how do you know they haven't spent most of it so far?!?!?!?!?!

jetBlue has been affected, yes. They have cut some flights, had lower loads, but haven't cut employees yet. They haven't been affected as much as the majors in my opinion because:

**They have awesome service for low fares!
**They are not as well known as the majors, and therefore, most people have a pretty good attitude towards them when first hearing about them, unlike the well-known majors with lots of bad stories.
**They are still in the reputation-building stage, and so far, the intelligent people behind the whell haven't done anything to screw that up.

My two cents. Tell me what you think.

Go jetBlue!!!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

>>how do you know they haven't spent most of it so far?!?!?!?!?!<<

How do you know they have?

>>and at $150 r/t to NYC from Florida, there is NO way they are breaking even.<<

It's been reported that they have CASM's of about $.06-$.07. AirTran's was $.097, yet they still had a net margin of about 15% in 2Q2000 while offering those $150 r/t from NYC-Florida.

From what I hear all the time, some DL, UA, etc. 747/777 flights have had even less than 30 pax. BEFORE 9/11. Plus, if 30 people is the lowest you can get, then that means that they have to be doing better than that.

If I remember correctly, on Thursday DL's load factor leader Thus. was BWI at 57%.

LowFareair,

I'm talking about RIGHT NOW.

I've ran a lot of tickets for travel 3-7 days from now, and before 11 Sept, the fares would have been in the $300 range, but now I'm able to sell and PRICE from the lowest fare buckets.

JetBlue is being affected just like everyone else... and since they ARE private, they don't have to tell *anyone*, not a single soul, how good or bad they are doing.

And FYI, United hasn't ran a 747 with only 30 people in the past few days. United has historically just cancelled the flight if it's that bad. Friends who are management at ORD said that they've sent out a few flights full, but the vast majority are 50 to 70% full.

Everyone is just nervous right now... lets hope all the airlines can ride this storm out....

SegmentKing:

I am talking about before 9/11. There are numerous stories on here about how there were "only 15 people when I flew on the USA-EUR route on UA/AA/DL, etc."

PS: Even if they are running those fares, the majors now almost have to match, and considering that they have a much higher cost structure than B6, they will lose more money.

PPS: DLexpress load on Thurs? 39%, highest in days.

I have no emotional ties to this airline whatsoever. They can either take over the world or go bankrupt and I wouldn't care too much. So let me tell you objectively that the finance management team at JB is shitting its pants. Anyone here who thinks they are not affected in a very major way right now is completely naive. This airline is based out of JFK for Christ's sake! And in case you haven't read the news lately, there ain't much traffic going in and out of JFK these days. On top of that, this airline is not publically traded, so no one anything about their condition except what JB feels like telling you. Southwest hasn't laid off anyone either and they have the strongest balance sheet out there. Nevertheless, they are also being dramatically affected, so I can guarantee you that JB's superior cash position will help them short term, but if this goes on for another 2-3 months they will be in a world of hurt.

who says they havent been affected, you will not know the truth if they are a private company.

to the jetblue lover,i take it your friend in the know is the chief exc or on the board or the owner?

How do you kon he is tellign the turth, ansett/anz said that had 600 million 4 months ago and ones gone with the other following.

British Airways said last year it would be ok, yet 7000 jobs have gone.

It is amazing what can be accomplised when nobody takes the credit
