Anyone Flown Recently?

Mon Sep 24, 2001 10:04 pm

I have a trip coming up in a couple of weeks, IAD-STL-TUL, round trip. If you've used any of these airports, how long did it take to clear security? I'm planning to be at IAD 1 1/2 hours early. Will that be enough? If you parked at IAD, how was parking? Plenty of spaces?

Any suggestions?

Many thanks!

Allow at least 2 hours at all airports. Call your airline for specifics.

I just flew into STL last night. From you schedule I assume you are on TW, I was on WN which has a seperate terminal at STL so I am not sure how they are doing it at the main terminal but at the East (WN) terminal I was out of my friends car and at my gate in less then ten minutes including checking at the counter before security. When I went through security it was simple: bag through the x-ray machine, walk through the scanner, show your ticket, show your ID, get wand run over you, have a dog sniff your bag and your on your way, no big deal.

I flew last week through STL. I was surprised that going through security at both MSP and MCI was a breeze, although all three airports were pretty much empty. I arrived two hours early on both ends and it only took me 10 minutes total to check in and get through security. I'm flying Wednesday again (MSP-STL-MCI-STL-LGA-STL-MSP). First time I'll be in NYC since the disaster - it's going to be weird. I heard that traffic is picking up at MSP today. That's a good sign.

I flew AUS-DFW-PHL 4 days ago on AA. Allow at least 2 hrs ahead of time. We were delayed on the tarmac for 2 hrs because they thought that someone had gotten on and off the plane. We had to play show and tell with EVERYONE'S luggage for 2 hours. Plus everyone is doing a 30 minute security check before flight as well, so you might board earlier than usual.

I will be going to STL this coming weekend on TW, unless something else happens and everything is grounded again. But I am very optimistic and I cannot wait to fly again!

Came through TUL this morning. Very efficient lines at security and I cleared in about 10 minutes. No problems at all.

Hi.

My girlfriend is flying in the Middle East. Last Wednesday she flew from Amman to Cairo in a Egypt Air flight. Tomorrow she is going to fly from Cairo to Madrid and on Wednesday will take the Lan Chile flight to Santiago.

At LAX you first have to go to one of the parking lots and get the bus to the airport. There was a huge queue for the bus so I would be early.

If you are early you may have to wait around a little. If you are late you will be causing all sorts or trouble for yourself!!

Just got home early this evening from San Diego.

Here's the line this morning; I waited in line for about 45 minutes, probably about an hour wait when this picture was taken.

I traveled PHX-SLC-ANC on saturday. No troubles. In fact, flight loads were so low that both departures were off the gate several minutes early. Security screening was a lot slower.. my best advice would be to skip the carry-ons if at all possible. The carry on bags were being searched from top to bottom and those of us with nothing but a ticket were whisked right through. Nice thing about everyone being scared to fly is that you are gonna get a row all to yourself. Allow yourself at least 2 hours to check in, although some airlines are recommending up to 3. Call the day before and confirm your reservation and also see how early they recommend you arrive. Good luck.

Thanks to everybody for the help. I think I have a pretty good handle on it now. I'll be glad to get back into the air.

Went on NW, IAH-MSP-IAH on the weekend. Like normal. I used the e-ticket machines for check-in.

In the UK, at least on flights that don't begin or end in the US, everything is exactly as before. I flew from Heathrow to Corsica a few days after the WTC collapse and I expected some Army soldiers on the roads leading to LHR, and a lot more security but airport security in Europe is very tight anyway. The whole experience was extremely reassuring because it was so normal. I know I'll never get a jumpseat ride again but air travel will continue as before.
