Finally we'll get a somewhat regular 747 service
Cargolux Flies To Calgary
On 17 September, Cargolux Airlines International inaugurated a new weekly service to Calgary, Canada, after the North American and Canadian airspace opened for international flights again.
We expect Calgary to become a very important market for Cargolux, says Ian Morgan, Cargolux Vice President North America. There is strong demand from the local community for an all-cargo carrier and the response from the Calgary and Edmonton markets have been extremely positive. The co-operation from the Calgary airport authorities has been excellent. At this time, cargo from Calgary consists of meat while the company also targets oildrilling equipment for final destinations in the Middle East and Baku, Azerbaijan. Cargolux's handling agent in Calgary is Globeground. Jim Piontkowski, Cargolux N.W. Regional Manager, is very optimistic on the possibility of a second weekly service in the near future.
Since we have obtained fifth freedom rights from Seattle to Calgary, we will utilize this sector to maximize revenue on our flight, Mr. Piontkowski says. As the handling agent for Continental Airlines in Seattle, Cargolux also works on obtaining an interline agreement with the US carrier for this sector.
