Unspecified Customer To Place Large Boeing Order!

Is this going to be an airline or do you think its just somebody like GE Capital...

Boeing gets 20-jet order

Company to provide 737s, 767s, but does not identify any customers

September 25, 2001: 7:33 p.m. ET

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Boeing said Tuesday it is preparing to provide 20 new jets to an unspecified customer, worth more than $1 billion at list prices.

The company said it received orders for 11 737 jets and nine 767 jets, but did not release the identity of the buyer or buyers. Four of the 737s replace a previous order for four 767s.

Boeing declined to say whether the orders represented sales or leases and also declined to say when the jets would be delivered.

The orders boost Boeing's order book for 2001 to 232 gross orders, or 180 orders net of cancellations and conversions, the company said.

Boeing (BA: Research, Estimates) lists the four members of the 737 family at an average of $55 million per plane, while the 767 carries a sticker price of about $120 million per plane. But Boeing's customers typically receive significant discounts from list prices.

Boeing CEO Phil Condit expects the aircraft maker to remain profitable despite the sharp decline in demand for new aircraft in the wake of this month's terrorist attack, according to a published report.

Last week, Boeing announced a plan to cut up to 30,000 jobs in response to the slowdown in the air transport industry after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The company has said it will do whatever it can to allow customers to take delivery of ordered jets, even if it means arranging the financing and carrying the aircraft on its own balance sheet.

Boeing's Seattle-based commercial jet unit has announced deliveries will fall below forecasts for 2001 and 2002 and could continue to slide into 2003.

In 2002 Boeing projects just more than 400 deliveries, down from a previous forecast of 510-to-520, with the downward trend likely to continue in 2003.

Boeing expects to deliver as few as 500 new jetliners in 2001

Hmm.....
737,767?Make an order during this economic recession?

I come up with my conclusion......Virgin Blue's suspect is quite high.

It's gotta be either Qantas or Virgin Blue. I really don't see any other carrier that's in a position to order planes given the current financial situation of the industry.

I thought Virgin Blue were taking Midway's 10 737-700s? The future of Ansett is not concluded, things could still happen to revive them, and for Virgin Blue to place such a large order is dangerous, especially when there are so many fairly new aircraft about to be released from many airlines all over the world.

I would guess that this order is for China, as they are almost the only ones who can continue to expand quickly despite the way the global economy is currently looking. Of course, knowing my luck I will be proved to be wrong!!

Could it be for Vietnam? I know they were given a lot of money by their govenment to expand. I heard they were looking for 777s, but with the current economy they might want to stick with the 767s like they already have.

Ya, I would agree with you guys...QANTAS, Virgin Blue, or a Chinese carrier.

What about Jet Airways (India)...although I thought they were evaluating the 752 (along with the 739) not the 767??

A QANTAS order would be a coup for Boeing....the A320 family must look good to QANTAS now with A330's coming.

Anyway, whoever it is...it's good news for the industry!

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

OK, I'll admit it, I'm the mystery customer. And if you believe that, I've got some oceanfront property in Arizona I'd like to sell you.

well i wouldnt think that Qantas would be buying 767's now with the A330's coming, so you can probally rule them out imo. Virgin Blue has no plans for 767's either, as it would destroy their lower operating base costs, having 2 different types of jets in the fleet.

The big thing to note here is that WHOEVER the buyer is, they are dumping a ***tload of money into the US economy, and right now, we greatly appreciate that..

I think we can safely rule out Ariana Afghan as the airline responsible for this order.

I heard it was someone called Bin Loading for some one - way traffic. Or possibly Afghani refugees to Nauru

Enough of being flippant. Consider who had ordered B767's and is now changing some of the options to B737's. Delivery positions are important. If this is a 12 month wait thing then it is any-one's guess. Are there any spare airframes coming down the line that are about to be parked?

No one has ordered the 737's and 767's. Boeing Vs. Airbus . It's all fake.

Nice to see someone taking the disaster of September eleventh into a childish, elementary context. Bravo to you, Red Panda.

I hope it is not Bin Laden the one who placed that orders...

He already has a 767

Can't be QANTAS, as they didn't have 767's on order, that they would be converting to 737's. They're going A330's as of next year. Unless there were some orders we didn't know about, and it can't be Virgin Blue because they've said all along that they would only have 737's, and certainly didn't have an order in for 4 767's before this economic meltdown hit the fan, so to speak.

Quite a few punks want to make fun of nearly 7000 people dying, thats what it has to do with Bin Laden... This was a serious post, they are taking it to another level that I will not be a part of.
