The B747

Wed Sep 26, 2001 6:45 pm

Hey folks,

I am just wondering, how long do you think the B747, or rather the B744 will survive? I think there is no more B744s on order, I can see airlines are using cancelling orders and turn to smaller aircrafts as the B747 is too expensive to operate after the disaster, seats definately won't be filled. Will the production of this aircraft stop soon?

The B747 being my favourite aircraft of all time, I just can't bring myself to see it disappear so soon.

By the way, which one of you here like the B747?

Thanks for the time guys.

No one wants to see the B747 disappear. And don't worry...it won't disappeat that early!Even the B747SP and the B747-100 are still in operation!Cheer up!

I like Singapore Airlines Big Top most of all,and the B747-300 Combi's.SIA had the world's biggest B743 fleet, and i've travelled on it dozens of times,as it was used to oerate HKG-SIN routes when the B744's and the modern airliners haven't arrived yet.Too bad i never flew on the combi...i remember when i was smaller i always thought of "What would it be flying with the cargos behind you"??They operate limited routes and never toHKG,SYD,SFO or LON!!!So too bad!

Big Top Forever!

I hope that the 747 will not disapear any time soon.
My favourite is the 747SP due to the fact that is shorter than the rest.

I think a brand new market will open up for the 747! Prior to September 11 most expected the number of passengers to grow rapidly. I am sure it will be so, just with a minor delay!

This growing number of passengers have opened the market for the A380 which however is so big that it will only fit a limited number of routes around the world and only be used by 'major' airlines. For the rest the growing number of passengers will not require an aircraft like the A380 but their markets and routes might raise to a level where the 747 will suit perfectly. Such routes could be those served by A330/A340 and 777s today which again would be used on routes served with A310 and 767s today.

Don´t worry - there will also be THE 'jumbo' arround!

Cheers
Thomas

There are still more 744s on order than a two-years production. Qantas, Northwest, Atlas Air, Polar, Lufthansa, Malaysia, SIA, JAL, Air France and more customers are still on the list. Lufthansa just delayed a possible new order for 4 B744s. They are needed to replace their B742s and its quite obvious that this order will come.
And I´m also sure, Boeing will launch a new version of the most important airliner ever some years from now.
