Leo Mullin currently on live press conference.

Announces 40% reduction in international flying from JFK.

Delta Express 50% reduction.

15% systemwide reductions.

Says the shuttle normally carries 3,000 people a day, carried 200 yesterday.

Says load factor last week was 29%, this week, no significant increase, running in low thirties. Break even load factor is 65%. Averaging 140,000 pax a day, however last Sunday carried 207,000. Normal daily carriage is 300,000.
Sunday was first encouraging day.

Delta Express must have been a money-loser or beak-even for DL.

As for the intl flights from JFK, makes sense, as the busy summer season is decidedly over and international travel will take a huge break in the near future (sadly).

200 people on the Shuttle yeaterday! Gee talk about having a great choice of seats. No surprise seeing DLX cut in half, considering they're based out of MCO, and have competition from AirTran, JetBlue, Spirit, Southwest, and until December, Metrojet to many of the same markets. DLX came out of the Leadership 7.0 program that led to some areas of discontent during the recent pilot's negoiation. DLX was also a direct result of Valujet and the competitive juggernaut that it was becoming on some of Delta's routes in the mid-1990s, pre-592. As it has been shown time and time again, a major airline cannot operate a low-fare division with much success, cases in point, Continental Lite, and Metrojet. Cutting of int'l out of JFK makes sense as well, since it is now the low season for travel, especially international, and with the load factors being what they are currently are, the planes taken off the int'l routes can be used to replace smaller aircraft on routes and reduce frequencies on routes.
