Delta Express must have been a money-loser or beak-even for DL.

As for the intl flights from JFK, makes sense, as the busy summer season is decidedly over and international travel will take a huge break in the near future (sadly).

200 people on the Shuttle yeaterday! Gee talk about having a great choice of seats. No surprise seeing DLX cut in half, considering they're based out of MCO, and have competition from AirTran, JetBlue, Spirit, Southwest, and until December, Metrojet to many of the same markets. DLX came out of the Leadership 7.0 program that led to some areas of discontent during the recent pilot's negoiation. DLX was also a direct result of Valujet and the competitive juggernaut that it was becoming on some of Delta's routes in the mid-1990s, pre-592. As it has been shown time and time again, a major airline cannot operate a low-fare division with much success, cases in point, Continental Lite, and Metrojet. Cutting of int'l out of JFK makes sense as well, since it is now the low season for travel, especially international, and with the load factors being what they are currently are, the planes taken off the int'l routes can be used to replace smaller aircraft on routes and reduce frequencies on routes.
