Status Of Observationdecks?

Fri Sep 28, 2001 3:11 pm

Do any of you out there know the current status of observations decks at airports like LHR, LGW, DUS, AMS, FRA, LAX......

Are they open to the public these days?

Best regards

Sinlock - Have you heard how long the FLL viewpark is to remained closed? Also, have you heard anything about MIA and it's areas?

Thanks.

If they close the LHR spec. gallery, I'll be very dismayed. I love that place. Hopefully they won't, although I could sort of see why if they wanted to.

I don't see the point in closing observation areas. If they close these then why not perimeter roads, multi-story car parks, etc.? If a terrorist were to go up on the observation area at LHR with some sort of weapon don't you think that people would overpower him? Closing observation areas won't stop terrorists, it'll just ruin things for enthusiasts.

P.S I think LHR's spectator area is open again

Greenjet - with you 100%. Neither enthusiasts nor indeed photographers pose any threat to aviation or airline security. Having people around very much reduces the chances of an attack. But of course, many people in the security industry are going for effect.

Bombayhog - very pleased to report: LHR (and Mach III aviation shop - well worth a visit!) open. Only closed for eight days.

Any word on Frankfurt? Sydney?

Presumably Tel Aviv is still a no-no!!!
