Frontier At AUS On Monday 10/1/01

Mon Oct 01, 2001 1:11 am

Anyone going to be out at AUS for Frontiers first flight to AUS? I hope to be out there to photograph the arrival. Guess photos from in the terminal are out.

Frontiers schedule:

Flight 216 Arrives from DEN at 1:50PM
Flight 217 Departs for DEN at 2:30PM

Flight 214 Arrives from DEN at 10:40PM
Flight 211 Departs for DEN at 7:15AM

I hope to be out at the viewing area around 1PM or so tomorrow.

Wow, I didn't even know they were starting service to AUS. Unfortunately I probably won't be able to make it  Sad Does anyone know what kind of jet it is going to be?

MEDIA ADVISORY

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- Frontier Airlines will begin new nonstop service from Austin to Denver today, Monday, Oct. 1, 2001. An inaugural flight ceremony will be held at approximately 2 p.m. Representatives from Frontier airlines, City of Austin Aviation Department and the Austin Convention and Visitor's Bureau will be on hand to untie the ribbon at the gate inaugurating the first flight.

News organizations from Austin and Denver have purchased tickets offered by Frontier for this flight. Only those news organizations with tickets will be allowed through the security checkpoint and will have access to Gate 6. All other non-flying media organizations must remain on the non-sterile side of the terminal (near airline ticket counters). A representative from Frontier Airlines will be made available for a brief statement to the media in the ticket counter area. The Frontier representative's flight from Denver arrives at 1:50 p.m. and the flight from Austin to Denver boards at 2:10 p.m. hence the brevity.

An additional photo opportunity may be had of the first Frontier take-off from the Family Viewing Area off Golf Course Road. Frontier's planes, uniquely decorated with wildlife scenes on the tails, have not been seen before in Austin. This vantage point will allow photographers to get an excellent view of the departing flight from the 9,000-foot east runway should conditions allow its use.

Directions to Family Viewing Area: Exit Presidential Blvd from Hwy 71. Go through the traffic signal, which is located at the main entrance of the airport and hwy 71 frontage road. Make the first right onto Golf Course Road. Follow the road around, passing the golf course. The road ends at the family viewing area. For more information, contact Jackie Mayo at (512) 530-6618.

Well, I would love to be there, but I am in school. Did you see my post on the Air Canada A319 at AUS the other day?

Yeah, saw that post.....
I wonder why that was here.

I'll be out at the viewing area this afternoon to get photos of at least the departure of the Frontier A319 and hopefully the arrival as well.

Frontier's first flight has come and gone from AUS. Water cannon salute upon arrival and departure.

Aircraft was N902FR

Parked at Gate 6 (Delta).

Hope to have slides processed and scanned by early next week to upload shots.

Frontier is sharing a gate with Delta. Not sure what US Airways will do when they finally decide to start service. There is still one open gate at AUS (25).

I agree XPX. Frontier REALLY needs to get rid of those old 737's. I've worked some of them and they are disgusting. They are Dirty, lacking basic maintenence, and it would be safer for them to operate some newer jets, and not these old leased jets. I am surprised because I know to some of Frontier's newer markets they often fly these planes(like IAH, for example).

US Airways' service to Austin (and San Antonio) has been pushed back to a mid-May '02 startup.
