BA Future Fleet Plans

Anyone have any ideas on what the future fleet of BA will be?? I think they will get rid of 747s to reduce capacity and introduce 764 to supplement 777s. (have the 764 an d777 got a common rating?? i think they do)

Got any more?

You think they would get rid of their entire fleet of 57 Boeing 747-400's! HA!  Laugh out loud Down grade maybe, but defininity not get rid of all 57 planes.

While BA may be planning to retire 747-200s and temporarily park some 747-400s, they are not interested in purchasing any additional aircraft at this moment.

BA also said it would park some 767s used on european services.

Thats what i have heard on sky news and on the internet yes it is crazy but i just dont think they can fill them!

BA actually are having problems filling some of their 744s, which is why they cancelled some 744 orders in favour for 772s. Who knows, maybe in time BA will get 773s (as was rumoured). 773s would have all the comonality with the 772s while being smaller and more economic than the 744s.

But, obviously, they aren't going to have any massive fleet renewal plans for a long time, and they'd never get rid of all their 744s

They won't shift all 57 744's...its just not possible (I hope). I would think this should all blow over in a few months, and things may well be back to normal. Before this happened BA had no problems filling the 744's I travelled on 2 of their flights in the Summer...

Both in business class, both more or less full.

Unless 11 sept has an everlasting effect on the Aviation industry, I see no need to get rid of all 57 744's.

The B767-400ER and the B777 certainly do NOT have a common type rating. The answer is simple. The B777 is fly-by-wire, the B764 is not.

They do, however, offer similar cockpits, and switching between the two aircraft is made easier by this, but the two aircraft certainly do not have the same type rating, because of the different flight systems.

I hope BA doesn't get rid of its 744's as they are such beautiful aircraft. Even though 777's are nice (and super high-tech) they look like crap compared to any 747 (except for the SP). Just my 2 cents.

They are adding the A318's which are on firm order. They were apparently in serious negotiations for some 773's. This seems like a reasonable addition to the fleet...whether for growth on the 772 routes or partial replacement of the oldest 744's.

Longer term....they would only consider the 764 if it likely was offered with RR....currently not. Might be applicable for 763 routes growing but requiring the 772.

Their current fleet & orders (A318-A321, 752, 763, 772, 744) is pretty full in terms of capacity jumps and will remain quite young thru this decade. It's possible that the A318 will be the last new aircraft type delivered to BA until next decade.

Perhaps the 772LR has an application? LHR-PER/SYD nonstop?

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

I doubt LHR-PER will be a huige market, maybe a few times a week. If it was direct to SYD, it would be a damm long flight but it would be good though. Saving time stopping over in SIN or BKG.
How come BA doesn't use many Airbus aircraft?
